okay I'll give someone $35 dollars back if they buy my kit and then send me their airbox. I will test the air box in all conditions so we can end all myths and rumors.
I'm testing stock air box tommorow at 2:00 I will be doing the exact same drive as before.
It will be done with the plastic piece behind the lights in place. I will do an 100% honest test, The sensor will be placed in the airbox. I will also test what changes when I hook the CAI tube to the stock air box from the grill location.
his filter blocks more dirt than a gauze cone filter,paper filter and gauze filter.
the number 1 reason I have a cone filter to start with is because of the M30 AFM.
before I got new injectors and M30 AFM my car wouldn't shift even half as hard as it does now, but this could be because my old injectors were dirty, and I live at 6000ft elevation so my car basically needs all the air it can get.
O.T=outside temperature
I.A.T= Intake temperature
this drive went threw 4 stop lights,4 miles of freeway, and 4 miles of 35mph roads
The final IAT number is from the second the car is done with the trip and parked.
RESULTS:
cone filter-sounds cool but gets really hot air sucked in even when moving at 60mph
O.T-58
I.A.T-101
NOTE-once it heats up from stop and go traffic it takes speeds of 65mph+ to get them to decrease.
conefilter/shield-better than just a filter but still is't getting cold air
O.T-59
I.A.T-78
NOTE-doesn't get very hot, but also takes a while to cool back down.
airbox- quiet, does a good job at not letting in lots of heat
O.T-61
I.A.T-75
NOTE- It took 4 miles of freeway driving to get the temps to start decreasing, there isn't enough air flow getting to it.switching from conefilter to airbox seems to lose top end power but gain a little below 2000rpms.
airbox with snorkel-
O.T-61
I.A.T-73
NOTE-didn't get as hot as the airbox without the snorkel but takes almost as long to cool down.
conefilter/shield and cold air duct-
O.T-61
I.A.T-63
NOTE-louder than airbox, does not heat up as long as the car is moving, even at speeds of 20mph the intake temps dropped down to the outside temp.
I believe if the stock box got air from a better source it would be just as cool as the conefilter/shield and cold air duct, but the stock box doesn't sound as good & doesn't filter as well.

nice job! I want to measure the pressure differential between the airbox and ambient (and also the throttle body and intake manifold). I just need the time to buy a bit of vacuum hose.

Did those results come from Lukas by chance?
:giggle:
jkjkjk just busting your balls man!! Good work on the results!!

Nice work. Thats why I kept my stock airbox and allowed it to use the highbeam as an intake through a sealed 3.25" tube. I think the stock mahle filter filters better than most cone filters on the market.

yeah, or you could just go from the grill so you dont lose the highbeam. I have yet to measure flow but i will eventually. the true flow filter supposedly filters a bunch better than the stock paper filter but who knows.:)
It might be an obvious questions but what about water? I know it might be only a small bit of water but don't you have to worry about rain either falling from the sky or from a car/truck. Just curious.
