I've driven both, and the E36 I drove was an ///M3. E36's just don't feel as connected to the road.

The reason I ask is because it seems like alot of you just can't afford an E36 so settle for an E30 while secretly worshiping those sail boat E36s.

I agree 100%...I feel out of link with the road/car. It feels like the car is driving me, while it should be vice versa.

          I've always liked my buddy's old e36 M3:

I picked E30 over E36. Even though it's older, I love my E30... It's just so much fun! I would prefer to spend the difference in cost on mods for the E30.

                  hell no!!

E36 is generally a boring car to drive. Its nice, smooth and does what it was designed to do well.

E30 is a go-kart in comparison, much more involving.

possibly an e36 m3, but definately no other model....
the thing is... with the money I have in my car, I could have easily bought an e36, with cash left over.... i guess that's in hindsight, but i've driven 2 e36's, and I havent liked either...

                        I'd trade my 318ic E30 for a M3 cabrio anyday...

Take your E30, whatever you have. Would you trade it for the equivalent E36 version.

Pretend E36s cost as much as E30s so selling the E36 would get you the same money as the E30.

                        So a 1995 325i costs the same as a 1987 325i.

So E36s in this imaginary world are cheap.

I would pick my E30 Convertible as it is more unique, more fun, and better looking. Diamond Scharz is the most beautiful color ever.

Given that the e36 has a stronger set of engines, bigger brakes, a better rear suspension setup, and a much larger aftermarket, yes, I would have no problem going to an e36.

I don't think it seems that way, I'd say it is that way.

I had 2 e36's and got rid of them for the e30's I have now so I'd say no. I liked my M3, but I think I enjoy my 325is more.

I've been an E36 M3 owner for the last 3.5 years. I just picked up an E30 325is this weekend.

I've tracked/auto-x'd the E36 alot over the years, but obviously haven't had a chance to get the E30 on the track. Here are my observations from driving around town,

                                - E36 has a much better powerband. Larger displacment and vanos are obviously helping here.

                                - E36 has a better steering feel. Yes this is aganist "typical" opinions but then again, my E36 is no where near stock in the suspension department either (full GC track setup). The E30 steering ratio is WAY too slow for my tastes. Maybe a track day in the E30 will change my mind.

                                - E30 bulid quality seems to be better. For a 17 year old car with a nearly shot suspension (except for new springs/shocks), it is a SOLID feeling car. The interior looks great as well. Except for a cracked dash and worn driver seat, it is flawless. Not something I can say for un-maintained E36's.

                                - I perfer the looks of the E36 M3 over the 325is. But, I must say I do love the look of E30 M3's. So its a toss up for me E36 M3 vs. E30 M3. This is pretty subjective anyways.

Overall, my E36 is a much faster car but I think the E30 is fun to drive, easy to work on, has cheap replacment parts and should work well as a daily driver/track car.
