E30s are built better. And it's fun to see the look on people's faces when they find out that my boxy car isn't all that slow.

E30's may be built better than early model E36's but anything 96+ is arguably better than E30s, give or take (they all have their issues).

All I'm saying is that I've heard of more people having major problems with E36s than with E30s.

No, but maybe for a 99 325ix coupe.

                +1

                This is true.

There are some standard e36 problems that is for sure. :)

I was a 95 M3 owner for 3 years. Fairly modded as well and I loved that car to death. I don't understand people saying that "the car drives you". I think some of you don't realize that cars take getting used to. Anyways, I made the mistake of letting a friend drive it which ended up totalling my car.

Well, I just purchased a 90 325is less than a month ago and I'm having a blast with it. Much better than I originally expected. I've taken it to the track already and couldn't believe that there was zero understeer with these cars. The rear does feel looser than my M did (but probably have to consider stock suspesion with 200k) which made me a little unconfortable at first, but after 3 sessions I adapted to its characteristics and began pulling some great lap times (1:19 at PIR). I was definately impressed, and saw how much potential this chasis has.

Now owning an E30, I wouldn't go back to the E36 chasis unless it was for a daily or I wanted to make a seriously powered turboed car, just based on that the E36 will be more stable at high speeds/acceleration and larger rubber can be fitted.

Anyways, I'll be swapping in my S50/tranny (for which I just bought cams) and steering rack, and my coilovers installed. I think I'll forget I ever had an E36 M3 8)

Hm are the E36's that bad? I guess that I dont really care to ever have one. The E30 has that perfect sports-car feel. I really see no reason to have an E36 ever..

An E36 M3 would probably make a good dual purpose car, for some people, but for me the E30 feels just right. I would never trade the E30 for an E36.

I really would be lying to say that I hate the E36's styling. I prefer the E30, of course, but I have seen quite a few nice E36's.

Yes, I would. There are perks to driving an e30 and perks to driving an e36. Im driving in my first auto-x this weekend with my e36 so we'll see how it goes. :)

TJ's car has baller status. For a daily car with occasional spirited driving... hands down e36.

                          For track use. e30.

Good point.. I didnt mean to sound like I was comparing the two.

For some reason I just imagine that the E36 feels similar to an E46, which I have driven. I still like the E30 better than the E46 for back road driving and such.

Not having driven an E36, I really cant compare the two.

I drove Jordan's Mom's 95 E36 M3 for a few days when we were doing the engine swap on my last car. Fun car to drive, really fucking quick, and that fucker turns more female heads than you can shake a 14" black rubber cock at. E36 M3 is a waffleswaffleswaffleswaffleswaffles-catcher for sure.

But would I trade my car for one? Probably not. And I'm not going to drop the whole "6 paragraphs on why I hate E36's". I don't hate them, and I agree with most of what James said earlier in the thread. I'm just not into them. I like teh E30's.

I am going to have to disagree, my car can walk a pretty heavily modified e30 325 and easily an e30 m3 with an s14 on the track.

I would say opposite of what you are saying. The e36 is a better chassis. I mean you need to reinforce the rear arms and subframe or you can WATCH it tweak and move on hard corners...

No doubt the e30 is a FUN car. I love daily driving mine and will mod it. However it is not a "better" track car.
