So I just got fired

I worked for the government for a while in their west coast DC for the navy exchange. best job i ever had. but then i got sick and had surgery and was disabled for a year, and they couldnt hold my position. If they fired you due to loading 4 too many carts in a motorized cart pusher, then your days were numbered anyway. They wanted you gone.
Find a smaller company to work for where the employees are treated more like family. The big companies may not be suited for you. Get in at a euro repair shop with enough bays that they need a lot boy who can also perform some oil changes. Cars always need to be fixed.
Absolutely. I agree with you 100%. I'm sure I pissed off the HR manager in some small way or another, she's pretty easy to set off from what I've heard from other/former employees. Was just wanting to vent, pretty much, and maybe get a lead or two on another job.

You're only 20 years old and have gone thru 5 employers already?Target claims I was following unsafe work practices, which is a giant load of shit. I was in my 90 day period and the HR manager is a bitch to everyone (they get complaints from customers about her all the time), and she basically tore me a new asshole in front of one of my friends last night about how I suck and she could do my job better blah blah. Long story short, I got canned.
Does anyone need a grease monkey at a shop in SoCal? I can do oil changes and fluid flushes and I am willing to learn how to do other stuff involving mechanics. Please help me out, the job market around here is absolutely fucked and I don't know what else to do. I would prefer slightly above minimum wage, but I'll take minimum. At least 30 hours a week would be nice, but I'm flexible. Please help me out guys. I work hard and you'll never hear me tell you I won't do a job unless I'm absolutely certain I can't do it.
I do some of the hiring evals for my company and if I see a résumé with that kind of job hopping history, it doesn't even get a 2nd look.
I don't know what your situation is, but that's a major red flag.
It takes time and money to train new employee's. No one wants to invest the time and money into someone with that type of history.
Figure out what you like, what you're good at and pursue a job in that field.
A career in the military might be a good option as well. You do your 20 years, retire with a pension and benefits for life and you can work in the private sector and draw a paycheck there too.
I have a friend who joined the Army at age 19, did his 20 years and he gets a nice check every month, plus medical and he used his military training to land a decent job that pays 60K per year on top of his monthly retirement check from the Army.
Not to mention he traveled the world and spent time in numerous countries and had lots of great experiences.
It's not for everyone, but it beats the hell out of working for min wage in retail and after you put in your 20, you walk away with a monthly check and benefits for life and have the option to work in the private sector and make even more money, plus your military training and experience will look good on a résumé as it shows discipline, dedication, loyalty, etc...
Oh yeah, you also get to fire a bunch of cool weapons.sigpic

I wont pass MEPS, I've had two major surgeries.
As for the job hopping goes, my first job was when I was 16, and isn't actually documented. My mom had me doing data entry at her work for $7.00 an hour under the table. My first real job was at a Del Taco. I worked there for about 4 months, before the owner went crazy and the General Manager quit. Most of the rest of us shortly followed. I quit after I'd been hired at Wal-Mart. I worked there for 8 months before getting a job with NEXCOM, which is the on base exchange store distributer for the Navy. I worked there for 2 months before I got really sick and I was hospitalized. I was on disability for a year after that, and needless to say my position had been filled by that time.

^^I don't know about your surgery history, but I've had major jaw surgery prior to entering, and one of my friends was involved in a parasailing accident (training for the Navy) and broke her pelvis, then had major jaw surgery again. She's still in flight school and ate solid food for the first time in months, and solo'ed, within 2 weeks of each other. Not to push the issue, but if you're interested there's ways around surgeries like that. Particularly because the Army needs people right now, as well.sigpic89 M3Comment

I'd never hear the end of it if I joined any branch other than the Marines. :P^^I don't know about your surgery history, but I've had major jaw surgery prior to entering, and one of my friends was involved in a parasailing accident (training for the Navy) and broke her pelvis, then had major jaw surgery again. I had two major abdominal surgeries last year, and my uncle, a recruiter, said that MEPS would DQ me instantly with my medical history

Many retailers are thinning out seasonal employees, as this holiday season is turning into a major bust. Target might be looking for any excuse to get rid of ANYONE that is in their probation period. As mentioned, it is strange that they gave you a reason. It's safer legally not to. It will be hard to find any seasonal jobs at the moment, but I'd think there is something out there if you look...monster, careerbuilder, hotjobs, indeed.com.
It will be hard (impossible) to get into now, but if you are going to work big box retail, you should look into Best Buy. Overall, good company to work for. All retail has issues, especially at that size, but they are pretty solid.92 325ic 5 speed, hard top, windscreen, 133k, for sale

I wasnt hired for seasonal, my group was one of the last groups to be hired before they started doing their seasonal hiring. I don't really want to do retail, to be honest.

I do not know about you, but who cares what others say on which service you enter. It's your career and your life, not theirs. If your 'uncle' would DQ you on Marines, there are others who are probly better suited for you. Marines are tough.....all the other services could say is "No". No harm done. But you have not even tried. In fact, with you not even trying, you are already considered a failure.....is this what you want in your life?:(sigpic

The less you get paid the harder you must work, go find a job that pays more :D I'm not kidding...I learned this many years ago.
This place is like catholic school, 2/3 of the students smoke weed on a daily basis, but the faculty seems to convince the outside world that drugs are just in the other schools, the resident pot dealer thinks he's cool because he has the originality to call anyone he doesn't like a homosexual, and most of the little children follow him like sheep, then there's the few with brains, you hardly ever hear from them, perhaps don't even know they exist, but they get all the sh!t done.Comment

Very true. Also the more you get paid the fatter you get. Back when i was working i weighed almost 260lbs. Now that i'm unemployed i weigh 185. And its not cause i can't afford to eat cause i get free groceries.Your signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.

Start fucking old women for money, then get your ass back in school and get an education.
Not necessarily a university, a trade or technical school would be a great idea as well. You need to have some skills if you are ever going to get well paying jobs.Need parts now? Need them cheap? steve@blunttech.com

Sorry to hear it. If you were the issue or if they were the issue it doesn't change your circumstances now. From this point forward you'll be on guard not to make those mistakes again, and we all know the economy is tanking, and that's not just talk, it's reality.
I'd guess that indeed Target is thinning the herd, even for the holiday season.
I don't have any suggestions on jobs, mine is rather involved to get into. I teach High School Science.
My suggestion is to pound the pavement and apply absolutely everywhere. Retail isn't easy but if it pays the bills then GREAT! You'll need to wear your best clothes, put on your best "amazing worker" persona every single dang day and get it done. If you beat out the others with your work ethic you'll eventually see successes.
You seem personable and articulate from our brief meeting for me to say that if you showed me drive, sincerity, work ethic and suitable skill that there's no reason I wouldn't hire you for any of those beginner positions.
Keep your chin up, put your game face on and don't have too much pride to stay with your family if you need to, till you can change your situation.
Good luck, I've been there.'74 2002 - Build blog at
