Na, I wasn't with him, I was replacing the tranny in my mk4 pos jetta. But it was him.
I can't help you with the tires, I would see if you can buy another rim. You could try wheel wizard in atl for repair. They do all of bbs NA's rims. I have a friend here who may be able to get you one remember, I can ask him tomorrow if you want.

If it still holds air, doesn't that mean it's possible to repair? I'm no expert it just seems like if you're still driving on the thing there's no reason not to get it fixed

If that's not possible, just find another single wheel

I've had some pretty nasty bends straightened. Its going to be cheaper to have it refinished and straightened than either scenario you are thinking about. At least have someone have a look at it, that wont cost anything.

You should post a picture of the damaged wheel. This is one of the BBS RS001's I picked up and shows the damage on the lip, how is yours compared to this wheel?

And this is the same set after repair and refinishing... (still have to replace used bolts with new ones & new BBS emblems & polish the center nuts) But the lips were repaired and not replaced and all had curb rashing but the above before picture was the worst wheel of the set.
