Disregard the idiot remark above. What are you wanting to know? Federalization information? Prices for stateside E30it's?

There are quite a few in the states at the moment, most are using a different VIN or some other shady Customs bypass route. Certain E30 touring specific parts are a wee on the expensive side and rust is quite common since the cars have likely been used in Europe.

I think when they turn twenty five years old they can be imported with far less problems.

I am not 100% sure, but if you import just the shell it would have to be done as a parts only car, once you put it together and make drive able, not sure how you would register such vehicle with no title, I tried looking into the same and decided no to do it, since I have no idea where to go after that.

I imagine that importing a shell into the States would be a lot easier than importing the entire car. I would contact Will Zaraska (www.willz.ca) for more information on importing. It is my understanding as well that importing cars 25 years or older is A LOT easier, search around a bit (or ask Will about it).

For some reason the EPA website says 21 years or older is fine for importation.

                      That is for EPA.

DOT still requires anything 25 years or newer to meet FMVSS.

Most feasible route is buying one that has already been imported in canada, crossing the border with US tags and stamping a US vin on it with a matching title from a parts car. This is illegal and in case of a wreck you will get teh shafts.

I don't really have 7g's right now or I might. In four years it will be legal to import a 1987 without having to get it certified through EPA or DOT. I will be glad when that happens. Then I will probably fly to Europe and buy one then make the shipping arrangements to bring it back stateside. I really wanted a 1989 though so I guess I will have to wait six years.

I tried to bring one over in the mid 90's and at that time it was beyond impossible.

Not only did the emissions system and chassis not pass the "standards" I would have had to install an SRS system in it and crash test it...

I think the shipping broker stored it for a while then had it smased.
