    2nd gear grind + 6900rpm = stupid ass driver

A few nights ago i was stupid enough to let one of my not very close friends drive my car. First off he was doing ok but started getting a little more throttle happy and i immidiatly said "whatever you do, do NOT redline it." Just as I get to "...redline it." he has already started climbing past 6K and im just sitting there thinking "wha...t the... fuck.." So as he was trying to "Power shift" (as he tried to say- fucking moron) he had tached it to just barley touching 7k and grinded the shit out of my second gear.

Im assuming everything is still ok because it drives no different. but i still wanted to ring the mofo's neck for doing that to my baby. People that dont drive old cars need to realize that its not a '02 NSX and you have to be gentle. Grrrrrrr.......

You don't have to be gentle, you just have to actually know how to drive. Why the fuck would he powershift a car thats not his nor has he ever driven it before. Hope you told this guy how shitty of a driver he was.

the ONLY reason I would let someone I barely knew (or wasn't a close and qualified friend) drive my car is if we were coming to my house (meaning LOTS of speedbumps) and she had a really nice rack...

Thats a different person saying she.

            1. Would never happen, only close friends who have proven driving ability can drive my car.
            2. Stupid maneuver like powershifting would have resulted in a concussion and being left on the side of the road.

...seriously, you should have told him to pull over, put him in check and if he continued to think he's Colin McRae and had the right to do that...show him you have the right to leave him on the side of the road. Not respecting another person's property is different from a mis-shift.

Last night, me and some buddies were driving each others cars. No one got to drive mine (I'm a selfish asshole, I get pissed when ANYONE but me drives it). My learning-how-to-drive-a-manual friend got in a 85 Golf and preceded to stall it like 8 times. He has a short shift in it, and the learning friend always missed 2nd and hit 4th. I drove it around with no problems, lol. I felt so bad, but it was funny as hell.

Sounds like your friend is stuck in V-Tec land. Advise him Bimmers make power sooner, have more torque and reving the snot out of it isn't necessary. If he tries it again kick his ass

Blah, our engines rev and I like to hit mid 6K every time. hell, revlimiter on my b18b was like 6800, so not much different. (Although, yes b18c is higher, etc) But don't say M20B25's don't like revs, or you shouldn't.

I've let my friends drive my car, and they all liked it, and I somehow dealt with it. Most of them were competent, even if a few always started off in 3rd..... But I always warned them to keep the revs before 6.5K and if they break a rocker arm......they bought me a new engine (M50).....and I was always sure they had enough money just in case.

But yeah, I kinda got one hooked enough (and he had track time in an eta too) and driven an E30 M3.....and he'll be looking for a LMR 325is in the spring. :D

Only problems were one wasn't paying attention and distracted by something funny, and i hate to yell at him as he almost hit 6900. Bastard. And another was convinced yanking down on the stick and popping the clutch during shifts is faster or cooler.

if your car is running well, you shouldn't have too much of a problem (assuming you're not revving your car higher than you should). I've got 180k miles on my car, and i redline it all the time. but yeah... i still dont understand powershifting... seems like it just fucks shit up.

Exactly, all these kids in my town talk about "powershifting" as if they know what they're doing. I drove in this kids 3000gt while he powershifted and grinded the shit out of 2nd multiple times. I cringed each shift.

I only let one other person drive my car and that is a good friend of mine from middle school (both of us graduated now) and when he asks if he can drive my car i usually dont mind as i know he wont beat the living shit out of it. He also listens to me when i say dont do five over the speed limit and be easy on the car. I am starting to think about letting him try my car out on a track as he really wants to but heh im not that trusty of him yet to let him do that to my car. He got into a car accident in his car and is out of a car right now thus he can not take it to track events nor drive it. (accident was not his fault)

i dont like letting other people drive my car, and i usually dont....
i dont have full coverage on my car and the motor has 156k on it. I would not want to let someone i know be responsible for breaking/crashing my car.
people i dont really know very well that want to drive my car are like.... "let me drift it"

yea right... drive you own damn car
