I heard it was a problem with the angle of towing a BMW with the front wheels off the ground. If the car is lifted up in the front, the front bearings from the gearbox will be starved of oil and eventually seize.. I think it's listed in the bentley

My e30's been towed over a thousand miles on a dolly. Just put the gearbox in neutral.

Okay you never want to tow an automatic with the drive wheels on the ground neutral or not... it will ruin the auto at high speeds and long distances (some say over fill the tranny and it wont ruin it but I say always on a trailer period.

And to my understanding it is illegal to tow a car on a car dolly with the car backwards.

Even in neutral the transmission is spinning and the bearings will still be starved if the driveshaft is connected.

Well thats not too much of a concern, the car is going to be redone anyway.

How is it always being towed? It's been towed once.

odd, according to the manual, you can tow the car with the front wheels off the ground with a few other considerations...

Tie down strap double-looped through the steering wheel and ratcheted to the brake pedal makes the steering lock a non-issue. :)

ive had my car towed 2 times, both times on flatbeds, the second time they came with one that towed via rear wheel pickup and the front was 2 inches off the ground so i told them to get me a flat bed
