Hey now! Let's be nice; I resemble that remark! (will be, Oh My God, 40 come April). To the point though, and this comes from years of personal experience, stick with checkcards and money in the bank. Credit is nice to have but can put you in a figurative prison if fully used.

Well, my card is a debit or check card, hence why it got "over drawn." I didn't go over a credit card limit :)

sometimes the bank will cut the overcharge in half. Its up to their discretion though.

When you mentioned you wanted them to use one credit card instead of "the other one", I think we all assumed the charged account was credit. NSF'ing your bank account is still pretty bad though, each one will stay on record for at least a year (I'm a teller BTW).

It's not my card, it's my Mom's. I only use it in emergencies. She's the one running it up to the limit :P

Why has this thread suddenly turned into a financial counseling session?

To teach us young ones that bad credit is a bad bad thing.

If you ever try to get a loan, credit card, or anything else where they look at your credit history.

This isn't directed at you TJ: But, college is the time to start building credit history, not ruin it. I think college students in general overlook trying to build credit, since buying a car, home, etc and getting a job is a long ways off. It takes much longer to rebuild credit than it does to ruin it, and this is pretty important when it comes time to start finacing a house or car. If you get a loan, utilities, try to rent an apartment, etc, they will often ask to look at your credit report, and can affect which rates you get.

The main criterias we look at to determine the financial security of a person is their credit history and their amount of NSF charges in the past year. Running your account dry won't have nearly the effect as exceeded the credit limit on a card though, it will disappear after a year.

a lot of times if you talk to the bank and tell them the story and all that they will undo the overdraw charges. i had a problem where i deposited $20 *cash* into the ATM, but the banik says the envelope was empty, so this caused me to overdraw my account by $15. i talked to the bank and they told me that they couldn't do anything about the $20, but real easily they refunded the $25 overdraw charge. They understand that mistakes happen, and if you are kind and polite they will help you out.

I just said it's only for a year. Planning to buy a house in the next 12 months? ;)

The problem here isn't the charge, it's the NSF itself. And for what happened I wouldn't refund the fee, I would direct you back to the vendor (as he was already doing).

Talk to your bank and see what the reprcussions are. I'm not a credit expert, maybe Mystikal could answer?
