At the time I turned in I was ahead, but I couldn't keep up speed in the corner and Robert was on a harder tyre, so was much quicker. At the time we collided he was in front, but I had no where to go, I couldn't stop the car, or turn to the right and my tyres were gone. It's a shame as it meant the end of the race for both of us. Should I have let him go? You always want to fight. Maybe I should have said let him go and bring third back home, but that's life. I tried to defend and, up to the mid-corner, I had reason, but then I had no grip to avoid a collision. I'm sorry to the team and also to Robert, as it didn't just mean the end of my race, but also his. The team did a good job, we were working very hard over the winter and the car seems to be very good. We had good pace today, so overall we have a reason to smile.”
i know that. but he said he caught up .4 from start to turn 3.. thats to vettel, NOT button.

i was giving an example of why the tires were such a big factor. if Kubica was able to catch Vettel by .4 second in a single corner, when he got past Vettel it would of been easy for him to drawn in Button who was on the same super soft tires as Vettel.

          get it?

Well, ( http://www.formula1.com/news/headlines/2009/4/9115.html ) apparently Lewis told the media in his post-race interviews that he was told to let Trulli pass (from what I have been reading).

The new elements presented to the Stewards several days after the 2009 Australian Grand Prix which led to the reconvened Stewards Meeting clearly show that:

            a. Immediately after the race and before Lewis Hamilton attended the Stewards Meeting he gave an interview to the Media where he clearly stated that the Team had told him to let Trulli pass.

            b. Furthermore, the radio exchanges between the driver and the Team contain two explicit orders from the Team to let the Toyota pass.

so why not just fine the team and move Hammy back to 4th place, instead of taking everything away? I swear F1 stewards must be a bunch of poo flinging idiots, ruining the sport.

the stewards have proven they are fucking idiots many times over the last couple of seasons.

I think its because of the perjury part of it that they aren't moving Hamilton back. That and Stewards CANT be wrong.

*not related to latest updates on hamilton*

im with the teams and the speed announcers, for KERS to be worth it for anyone, the minimum car weight must be increased at minimum this year. Next year when it becomes a requirement i expect power output will be increased as well.

Yes, I was talking about McLaren being slow... they're having aerodynamic issues and won't have them resolved for a few weeks. Thanks for clarifying.

I just heard about this... what a crock of shit.

I can understand taking his 3rd away because his team (for god knows what fucking reason) told him to let Trulli pass.... but why the fuck would they flat out eliminate him from results? Unreal. What a stupid fucking call... it doesn't make sense to me.

....well okay, it does sort of make sense from a rules/legal perspective, but still bullshit.

In a way, his punishment was lenient.

"In Melbourne, I had a great race,” said the reigning world champion. “As soon as I got out of the car I had the television interviews at the back of the garage, and straight away I gave them a good account of what happened during the race. Straight after that we were requested by the stewards, and while waiting I was instructed and misled by my team manager to withhold information, and that is what I did."

Thats pretty poor judgement. He needed to tll what is true, and this would not of been an issue. What about the implications on Trulli and Toyota? How much money did they have invested in this race? Had the stewards not investigated it any further then Toyota would be shit out of luck!

For what its worth, McLaren has suspended their sporting director Dave Ryan.

I totally agree with you on all accounts. Its messed up he was instructed to lie, and even more messed up that he didn't have the self confidence to know it was the wrong thing to do. I'm glad mclaren's sporting director is suspended, if I were mclaren, no matter how good he is, I wouldn't want him representing the name by having such terrible judgment and ethics.

It seems that McLaren in the past few years has become this lying cheating team from what was considered the most ethical team on the grid.

Sadly, hopefully by suspending the sporting director they can get back to the basics of being a good team.
