well the rear valence needs a repaint. so i mind as well smooth it out and get rid of the black stripe. the only added cost will be repainting the front valence which is in decent shape, but textured.

and then i would need some clear film to protect the front end and side skirts.

i would just get a new valance they come de texered and perfectly straight. mine still has no rock chips in it.

my rear valence magically lost its texture after i got it painted.

i kept mine original as well, it match's the lower black texture on the rockers and rear valence. i would keep it original unless you want to remove all of the texture from the rest of the car.

        that's my 2c

well thats the plan. IS sideskirts will cover the rocker panel's black and texture. i believe it covers it 100%?

rear valence needs a repaint, so goodbye lower black half and texture. and the IS side skirt has no texture, so all that would be left is the front valence. ill just spend a bit extra to get that repainted (even though it is quite clean).

i dont see how buying a new valence and painting is cheaper tho?

yeah i dont like the glossy lip and textured valence looks at all. I think im just gonna leave my rear lowers black and keep the is lip black.

The paint seems to be a bit rubbery, and I think a heat gun and a paint scraper would take it right off. I'm planning on doing the same with my front and rear valences because the rubbery stuff is starting to crack.

Believe it or not but this works excellent for removing the rubber texture while keeping the factory epoxy primer intact. Just use at a reasonably low RPM.

Only use this if you're concerned about preserving the epoxy primer because it takes about 45min of work to strip the valance. If you're just taking it down to bare steel then there are faster methods

do you have to be careful not to eat through the primer with that brush? or is it somewhat 'imune' to it?

keeping the factory primer is always a big +

Well I've stripped two valances with my angle grinder and that wire brush attachment. As long as I keep a light touch and don't be careless then it is fairly easy to keep the factory primer intact. The factory primer is pretty tough. Of course, on edges and corners you're going to burn through to bare metal a little.

I'd keep the angle grinder under 1200RPM and just start off with a light touch until you get the feel for it. My wire brush attachment is pretty worn out so that may be what makes it easier for me.

Here's the first valance I stripped a couple months ago, all done with the angle grinder and just denatured alcohol to clean up any remaining residue.

Hmm, interesting thread, just a quick question, if I was going to do a repaint on my front and rear valences, what can I do to prevent those rock chips and scratches and dirt from becoming evident? and for that rear black section of the rear valence, what should I do in order to repaint that and make it the color of my car?

If you want it to stay rock chip free you will need to put some clear bra shit on it. If your car is low at all you will quickly get rock chips otherwise. And if you strip it off your rear valence and want it to be the same color as your car you will have to clean, prime, paint. But since you needed someone to tell you that I would recommend you don't even touch it.

I have none of that texturing on my car now. I removed it from the front and rear valences and on the rocker panels (covered by sideskirts anyways).

It's ugly but functional. Don't do it and then whine when your paint chips off.

I've heard that the aircraft stripper in the jug-tin thing works better than the aerosol can. I don't know if that's true, though.
