Mine usually fires up after about 2 seconds (about the same speed as most other cars), but occasionally (seems to occur most on hot days or starting when the engine is still hot) I'll have to crank for maybe 6-8 seconds. I've read of the same problem happening with lots of other people. Haven't looked into the issue at all, but I would like to get it taken care of.

14 here around campus, i never get above 3rd gear though. Driving around in low gears eats my mileage.

But when im at home, 21 in town, and 29 on the highway when i drive to and from school.

This is in my 87 325is 5 speed.

'90 329is (stroked M50 to 2.9L) with 4.10 gears, 28 lbs injectors, cams, the works, gets about 20-24. The best I have been able to get (cruising at about 70 - RPMs were right around 3500 or so) has been 24. Most of the time I get 20 due to going about 80 (RPMs are around 4000). Hopefully the 3.73's I have will help a little, or I could just throw the 3.25's in.

I get about 19mpg in my car; 17 in the city and up to 23 on the highway. 2.8 M20, 42# injectors, 4.10s, cam, MS, etc. Tuning low load areas for economy can be tough..

a bad coolant sensor would affect how the engine runs at all temps.

My M42 gets 33-34 mpg all highway. But the car turns 4k rpm while cruising.. damn 4.10.

My eta got 35 driving all highway-- no matter how hard I drove it. But it could only turn 4300 rpm tops. Love the 2.93.

My E30 pulls in great mileage, at least low 30s in combined driving (when the AFM is working properly anyway) and ~35 on all-highway trips. I'm averaging 23.2MPG around town in my E34 540i.

21.72 over four months. About 3600 miles, <80 on the highway. Highway from Tucson, AZ to Tuckee, CA by way of San Diego and Berkley I got 27.69.

I get 27 around town with 100% city driving and mostly with the motor cold. Stock M42 with Mark D 93 octane chip, 4.10 rear end, magnaflow, and minor intake work fwiw. Also has an electric fan. I usually don't beat it, though, because the engine is always cold. It pretty much stays below 3 grand.

On the highway I tend to average 38-42 mpg, but I like drafting semis.

I get about 10.5-11L per 100km, or about 22MPG in my m20b25 mainly city driving.
