    Doubletakes: Post yours

Yesterday, I was outside of a grocery store smoking a cigarette.

On old coot, likely 65ish, rolled his cart over to the cart corral. He spent a good 2 or 3 minutes gawking at my car. I was standing about 200 feet away, just amazed at this guy checking out my car like he had never seen an E30 before.

Ever catch anyone checking out your car? Something unexpected?

    Post your story here.

I was coming from work early one day why all the kids were walking home from school, my house is within a few blocks of the all schools in my town.

I was in Steak N Shake one night and a little boy about 3, a few tables over was talking about a nice BMW in the parking lot. I guess it kinda just went past me that it was my car, but I left about the same time as they did and the little boy ran up to me as I was unlocking my car and said he had always wanted a ride in a fast car. The funny thing is that I drive an ETA, lol.

e30s are too ordinary here, I did have a really old guy at a gas station ask me how I like my old red M tech I car-- he said he had the EXACT same car that he bought new in 85 and said it was the best car he had ever owned.

            a few months ago----------

I was at the gas station in my 1955 Chevy- filling the tank, and older 60s guy comes out of the store and just stops and starts staring at the car (happens alot) but then he comes up to me and tells me (all upset) I have alot of nerves to drive something like that-- the bird/plane ornament on the hood could really hurt pedestrian in an accident---------

I told him to get fucked, and stay out of my way then!

really young kids point at my M3 alot (under5) probably cause its the same color as a push-up-- kids seem to dig my stuff alot more than anyone else here.

every morning on my way to work last summer I let the air out of my airbags in my truck and scrapped past about 10 kids at a bus stop-- they would start clapping already when I was blocks away.

From an older thread, but this is my best one:

I was in the local T-Mobile store looking for a case for my new phone, and as I was leaving, this mom was coming in with her 3 kids, one of them was about 12, and holding the door for everyone. As I was walking toward the door, I heard him saying to his brothers "check out that bimmer". So when I got to my car, he saw it was mine, and he goes "NICE BIMMER!" So I said "thanks", got in, and started it up, and he was still standing there.

So as I was leaving the parking lot, I got toward a spot where it opens up really big around around a corner, revved it up, dropped the clutch, and flung the car sideways around the corner for a good 50-60 feet. When I looked back in my rear-view, I saw the kid jumping up and down with both hands in the air screaming "YEEEEAH!!!!" I thought it was cool that the little guy complimented me on my car, so I felt like giving him a little something back.

Yes they do. They usually end up solidly around trees shortly after...

My story: we had just pulled up at rimside parking of the Grand Canyon. A rental Caddilac parks in the spot next to us, and a family gets out. The father comes over to me and in a very heavy German accent, compliments me on my e30. He goes on to explain that it is currently very popular with the old people in Germany.

I was on the highway one day when a brand new Audi S4 (about 2006) comes flying up behind me. I'm in the right lane and he changes to the left. As he comes up next to me, he slows down. I look over and he gives me a thumbs up before resuming his pass. That was a pretty cool feeling.

I can't wait to get my new one put back together.

I was buying groceries at Fred Meyer's a month or two ago and walking back out to my car. I see a kid (maybe a couple years younger than I am) in a zinno 325es parked next to me with his car running staring at mine. I smiled and waved and a look of surprise came over the kids face and he shot off without making eye contact or saying a word.

Driving home late one night I had a younger guy in a brand new Porsche Cayman S start pacing my car, and I looked over and he was just staring. Took me a few moments to realize he was looking at my car, but he gave me a honk and the thumbs up and then took off.

Not to be conceited, but I receive compliments about my car on a weekly basis. Makes you feel good about what you've done to the car to make it your own. Most people think the car is imported and I'm German for some reason though(probably because of the europlates.)

I had a few in the e30 M3. One was probably 6 or so years ago when I was in college and was leaving the chemistry lab one night. I had parked in the faculty lot since it was after hours and saw two guys standing next to my car looking at it. As I approached them they asked if it was my car. I said yes and they went on how they had never seen an e30 M3 in person before and how much they liked them. Shit like that never happened with girls unfortunately.
