I looked out my window from my apartment and saw two girls looking at my car. they were walking around it trying to figure out why it said "332is" on there. turns out they both drove e30s and are friends with Joe Funk and then we talked about e30s for like 15 minutes.
I got a way huge arm-out-the-whole-window-while-the-window-was-only-half-way-rolled-down thumbs up from a guy in a 325ic yesterday.
in fact i often see other e30 drivers or drivers of other old bmws giving me thumbs up or flashing high-beams or what not. its pretty fun.

a few months ago----------
I was at the gas station in my 1955 Chevy- filling the tank, and older 60s guy comes out of the store and just stops and starts staring at the car (happens alot) but then he comes up to me and tells me (all upset) I have alot of nerves to drive something like that-- the bird/plane ornament on the hood could really hurt pedestrian in an accident---------
germans are so weird! man... what an odd thing to say. i dont think it will matter how sharp the ornament on your car is if you hit some one. it is going to hurt like a bitch no matter what!
i have gotten a lot of thumbs up from other e30/bmw drivers in the past. it always feels good haha.sigpic

I get compliments all the time. I've said it before, besides the fact that its a damn good looking car (E30's in general), you just don't see clean and tastefully modded ones around here much.
Side story, I did a doubletake myself. I was driving home in my GF's Camry. I turned onto my street, and saw my POS, rustbucket DD E30, that I've never washed or anything. I was about 3 blocks away, so none of this was apparent from that far.
I just thought to myself "Damn, what a fucking great looking car." Then of course, I got closer and saw the basketball sized rust hole in the quarter panel and said, meh. At least I have a clean one in the garage, so I went and said hi to her.
And as far as thumbs up, I give and receive them all the time from other E30 owners. One guy, out of the dozens so far, didn't even care. "What a prick!" I said.turk@gutenparts.com

Once I was leaving my crap job when I was 16 and just talking to a coworker and I said where did you park? He was looking at the car as we were walking and stopped behind my car and said right there! Nice huh? I replied with something like its alright and chirped the alarm unlocked it and got in. Then we raced home on the freeway, I destroyed his Toyota Pickup with the camper.
The E30 used to get lots of compliments after I told them how old it was. I love the reactions when in an 8 series because people don't know what or how old it is. Once an Older lady like 50 with a diving board Eta kept driving and talking to me whenever we caught stop lights, she liked how my car was "dressed up".
My fav. was when I first got my '04 F150 since it was so boxy rather than the bubble looking girl truck they made before it, kids loved that thing and one day outside a Target a little boy toddler age said to his dad, when I grow up I want a truck just like that.!sigpic

I was @ a local hole in the wall chowing on some tacos with a friend of mine, left the windows of the e30 open as my buddy and I are 4 feet away from the car.
I see 2 e30's pull up to my car and check out my ACS wheels then 3 guys step out and started circleing the car gawking at the custom interior than I said what's up?, thinking that this is going to turn bad now., I start sizing up the guys for an ass whooping! they said FUCK YOU!!! I love your car it's got the cleanest leather interior we've seen.
Needless to say, I gave them my brother's business card and got them to get some upholstery work done, but to be honest I thought I was in deep shit since these guys where a little hood, if you know what I mean...... and I get the thumbs up maybe once a month or so, you guys are right it feels good to know that some people still appreciate others who take their time, to make the e30s look so hott 20 years later.Last edited by IRON-E; 02-12-2009, 03:54 PM.@IRON-E30 aka Edwin:D

First day I got my car actually - I'll probably never forget this.
I flew from Cleveland to Dallas to get mine. The PO had just said his good-byes and I was beginning the trip back home and figured I should find a FLAPS to pick up some oil and other misc. items as a "just-in-case".
I was arranging crap in my trunk and hear a car pull in the lot. Didn't think much of it until I shut the decklid and find myself staring at the ass-end of a beautiful black e34 540i (I really wanted one of these prior to picking up the e30). The guy had just gotten out of his car and was checking mine out so I smiled back and said "Nice car!" He gave a thumbs-up and returned the complement as he walked to the entrance and then proceeded to mention how real Bimmers have round headlamps. Thought that was pretty funny. Great way to begin an 1100 mile trip :D-Geno

I've got a first day story too - After wanting one for years, I had just picked up my current e30. The PO cleaned her all up and made her sparkle before I got there. While driving home I passed a Delphin e30 SLAMMED on some BBS 3 piece looking wheels going the opp way. We both broke necks and gave a thumbs up. I thought to myself "finally."
Otherwise, fuck Chicago. I've never seen so many late model BMWs all in one area in my life. I passed modified e46+ models all the time and any time I give them some sort of gratification I get cold stares and stuck up glares.
Way too many rich douche bag BMW owners here who think they're top shit. Hardly any E30's, nevermind modified ones.

just remembered a funny one.
i used to work for this organization that installed free loaner A/C units to poor people in oklahoma who didn't have a/c. i went over to this guys house to install it and one if his friends was there.
(i had a red eta at the time)
his friend looks at me and says something like "damn thats one sweet ride! a BMW huh? woooo nice! you should come pick me up some time and we can go cruisin and pick up some ladies! ill be the old bull and youll be the young bull!" and i was like.... rightt....
for you youngins who don't know the old bull/young bull story, lookie here. (the story was originally told to me by my college golf coach)
An Old Bull and a Young Bull were standing at the top of a hill overlooking a large meadow full of cows. The Young Bull says excitedly, "Let's run down there and fuck us a cow!"
"No, son", says the Old Bull, "let's walk down there and fuck them all."
