    valentine 1 hidden display placement

I've searched for the last hour for a place to put mine. The best I found was to stick it in the hvac by the hazards. I would do that but my head unit is a 7in touch screen that flips up and covers that whole section of the hvac. Any ideas for another spot?

Integrate it inside the ashtray. Don't get the euro storage thing though, because you may want to have the lid (that is found only on the ashtray) to cover it up. If you could make it look decent, that'd be quite stealthy.

I've seen it built into the ashtray before, looks great.

Ashtray is definately stealth, but not in immediate line-of-sight when driving. Of course the V1 has the audio alarm to go along with the arrows display so I guess as long as you hear it you should be ok. Just don't play the tunes too loud. ;-)

Not too long ago I was riding shotgun in my brothers' car when he got pulled over for speeding. The California Highway Patrol nabbed him doing 80 in a 65.....even told him "my Lidar got you doing 80". When we got home I Googled Lidar. If you don't know what it is, look it up and learn about it. Its the law enforcements' newest weapon against speeders and its undetectable by most radar systems. If your state allows laser jammers (illegal in Calif.), you might have a chance. Otherwise you could be toast.

Aren't all jammers illegal across the country?

I agree with the V1 thing, I mean arrows or no arrows, once you hear the beeping and note the flashing lights you're going to slow down either way. The arrows are a nice convenience if the cop is in front of you or around you, but behind you it is moot.

the thing about radar detectors is, by the time the detector goes off, the cops already have you on the gun. you can slow down, but youll probably still get pulled over. that what im told anyway... anybody have experience with this?

I heard that too. They work for photo radar and automated traps but are less successful with old fashioned radar guns.

They work as long as the radar gun is left on, which most of the time it is. Lasar detectors only work once youve been hit by the laser

Lidar (laser) is not new at all - it's just more effective.

I had an Escort Solo II for a while, found it gave me up to a good 2 mile heads-up for a cop using radar on the highway...well before they could pick me up. It also gave me a good idea of whether he was stationary or driving, based on the change in signal strength.

I guess it depends on your location. For California, it was first rolled out in the SoCal region about a year or so ago. Only within the last 6-9 months has it been more widely used where I live in northern California.

NorCalE30 - the Marin county area has seen the use of Lidar for a bit longer than here in Sacramento.

The difference between Lidar and the speed measuring devices used by law enforcement for some time is that Lidar only needs to be on briefly for a cop to get a reading on your car. The older systems were based on Dopler frequencies and were often left on…..thus emitting a frequency which detectors like the V1 or Escort would pick up well in advance and giving you time to slow down before getting nailed. Lidar is a handheld device with an aiming scope mounted on top; when the trigger is squeezed to activate it, the laser beam aimed at your car is present for only a second or two….hardly any time for a detector to warn you of trouble lurking ahead. Lidar is accurate too – its target area at a distance of 1000 feet is about 3 feet in diameter. This much higher degree of stealth and accuracy greatly reduces your chances of successfully contesting the ticket in traffic court. I have had friends tell me their V1s pick up laser, but they aren’t sure if it’s something being aimed at them or a wayward signal bouncing off another car. Either way, by the time you are alerted, it’s probably too late.

Sorry for the threadjack.....but since my brothers' speeding violation via Lidar the other week, I spent some time online researching it.

why not just not speed when there might be a cop?
