takes up like no memory at all, really fast scans, has never missed a virus on virus scanner tests. i thik its 40 dollars for a year of updates. it updates like 2x everytime im on the internet and the updates are small, u cant notice the thing running unless a virus pops up or u decide to run the scanner.

you know what they say, the best protection is abstinence.. ;)
seriously.. virus programs are fairly pointless IMO. oh gee, a new virus just came out and there's not an update for it yet.. that does a lot of good. I don't run A/V and I haven't had a virus since my roomate was downloading shit on P2P networks and infected my machines over the LAN (like 4 years ago). SInce then I no longer share my drives over the network (and I don't have idiot roomates anymore either).
I *do* run spyware removal software though (as well as having a firewall on my router)..
I agree
I do not use anti-spyware, or anti-virus and my computer has been virus free for THREE YEARS! that's right, I've been running the same install of Windows 2000 Professional for the whole three years, updating service packs as we go.
If you install Windows XP, the most common problems can be solved by updating to service pack 2 before you hook it up to the internet, or finding a way for it to not contract any viruses before you update it. I would reccomend getting hte free service-pack 2 CD from microsoft.com

DONT GET SP2!
SP2 works fine as long as you are virus free when you install it. Best to install it fresh from a reformat.
Edit: The only problem I've ever had with it, is that it claimed my anti-virus was not installed. A few Norton updates later, and it stopped giving me error messages.

Ditto. After a few updates, SP2 will recognize Norton. Just did this yesterday on my girls laptop. 676 infected items. Had to run Adware in safe mode.
