    New to the Forums

Hello everyone! I'm new to the forum and would just like to introduce myself. Name is Zach, but Paco works just fine. I live in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia.

As of right now I do not own an e30 but would like to in the near future. So I'm here to be a sponge and soak up as much info about these cars as I can. I would like to know the little things about them that really separate the different years from one another. I have to be honest, the e30 that I would pick up would be for an engine swap project. It would house a LSX base engine. I know some diehards wont like that, but it's all good :)

Little bit about me. I'm a Manufacturing Engineer at Continental Powertrain division (formerly SiemensVDO Automotive). The plant I work at does mainly gasoline fuel injectors, but with another one of our plants being consolidated into us, we'll be working a lot with diesel in the coming months.

Currently I have a 2005 Pontiac GTO that is twin turbo'd. It puts out some good power, but it's a pig (race weight of ~4000lbs). Here's a quick pic of it:

Thanks for your time and I hope to learn a lot from the boards.

welcome. why wouldnt we like an ls7 swap. these cars arent classics. they are 20 y/o shitboxes that are fun and cheap. id get an early car to fit more meat out back due to the higher wheel arches. a project like that is going to make you replace most everything anyway so it really doesnt matter much otherwise. obviously the is's have a little nicer interior if youll be keeping that. welcome

that's the kind of info i'm looking for (about the arches and is's). thank you. And i had a feeling i'd be replacing just about everything... that's why it's going to take a little bit of time for me to get one, have to finish paying off the goat. broke everything in that car and it's costing me.

If lucky, the E36 will die peacefully, in its natural habitat, and be given the prestigious honor of donating its parts to an E30

You stolez my name! I sign emails pacoloco every now and again, it's fun isn't it? :)

Welcome, there's a very detailed build thread about a guy putting an LS1 into an E30. His father is an engineer and helped in using ProE to design some of the conversion parts. Maybe you can get a few idea from that thread? They used a foam engine mockup and relocated the brake hydraulic components.

There's e30tech.com too in case you're looking to do even more reading.

yup, i know what thread you're talking about, that's what brought me to this board. i'd probably do the same thing. i use inventor (same basic thing, parasitic cad design), i know i'd eventually start mocking up one off parts via that. i've done similar things on my other cars as well (kinda the dork coming out of me) :)
