not to mention that taking 4-door seat out is a PITA, because seats don't slide forward for rear bolts and require a special 17mm socket to fit. 4-door seats suck.

Did you try raising the seat? The rear bolts frustrated me for a while as well until I did that.

Why would they look dorky?

Because two door cars have those fold down seats to let passengers in and out of the rear seats, that's super handy.

But with a four door car, rear seated passengers can use a door to enter and exit the vehicle, that is also handy.

Since the Recaros in my four door are two-door specific, I'll leave it at that at the risk of sound hypocritical.

I think putting the 2door front sport seats in a 4door look fine. They're more comfortable than the 4door "comfort" seats anyway.

2 door seats in a 4 door is the shizzle. Way easier to get busy in the backseat when you can put the front seats even more forward.

Ive always wanted to put sport seats in my 4-door for the lateral support, but didnt want the fold down thing since it wold look stupid. sigh.

I never though of it as weird since the 88 jetta gli recaro seats also have the flip forward thingy. Have you considered seats from a newer sedan with sports seats? I've got a black leatherette seat you can test drive from an e46.
