My father in law has an 85 300zx mint sitting in a barn with 30k on it. I want it so bad but he wont let me have it because it doesnt have airbags and he's afraid of me geting hurt in an accident, is that crazy or what? So it sits, collecting dust, waiting for the day to be rescued.Comment

I wouldn't imagine how brittle the fiberglass/resin shell could have become after 35 years under the killing sun... It is sad, but that car is just a VIN and chassis.Brake harder. Go faster. No shit.

so damn true
corvettes at carlisle was this weekend, and seeing not-so-rare, c2 shitboxes selling for 20G's made me sorta hate corvettes. that and people bringing c3's right out of the mud and asking 5 grand and giving a 'good luck with rust' testament.
its all about the numbers now.Originally posted by Lof84 doors allow you to transport more whores.
therefore, their value is much greater.Down to: 89 aw2 332i/4/5 , 70 Sahara 2002

I've seen worse cars brought back from the dead.
If it is indeed a #'s matching car, it's worth 6 figures after a full body off resto, although I don't believe GM introduced the "Muncie Rock Crusher" tranny until the late 60's and I don't know if any Corvette came with a 4.56 rear end. Maybe a ZL-1 or L88, but those too were introduced in the late 60's.
I also saw this same car on corvetteforum.com about 5 years ago.
I wonder what ever happened to it.sigpic

It's not a low mileage BMW or anything, but...
I was recently given my great-grandfather's 1960 Bel-Air 4-door. He bought it new in '59, was diagnosed with cancer and died 4-5 years later. My great-grandma didn't drive, so the car sat in a garage for 20 years. Then, my grandfather and uncle moved the car to New Jersey, where it sat in a garage for another 25.
The car has 30k mi on it. The clear plastic floor mats and seat covers have never been off. The interior looks like it was assembled yesterday! I'm going to be moving it to PA in the next couple of weeks.
I didn't have my camera with me when I went down last time, but I'll post pics soon.
I can't decide what to do with it... Clean it up and show it as a 'survivor', or could I get away with restoring and actually driving it? What about updating the brakes and suspension to make it safer? Would that be sacrilege? It is a 4-door after all- it's not like I'd be driving around in an all-original bubble top 409. What do you guys think?Comment

Oh wow man really? That's awesome. My vote is make it a slow restoration process. Do your homework first and do things right. That could be an amazing ride.
I'd say get on the old Chevy forums asap and take in the knowledge.
Some inspiration for ya:
