Just wondering if anybody knows if you can fit a fuel tank from an 83 e30 into a 91 e30.

The answer is most likely yes, although you may need to reconfigure some wiring/hoses/pump location based on your application.
Perhaps a new tank would be a better way to go. The eBay $200 or so units are fine. -

get a spectra from autozone. fits like oem just doesnt have the drain by the rear passenger side. atleast for a early model it fits wellComment

Yes, it fits.
Yes, you'll need to adapt a bit of the plumbing, as the early tank uses a single in- tank pump and a crossover pipe.
You'll also need to modify the shielding underneath- but don't delete it completely.
I too would source a late- model tank for a late- model shell.
