i bought the same headers from the same company

i put them into the x pipe and lined them up as right as possible and the two primary/flange sets are a good 1-2 inches offset from one another

i also put the flanges on a flat surface with them spaced approx correctly and the ends that slot into the x pipe hit together.

if i had my way i would have my money back and purchase from a different set of headers, dont really know why i didnt just bite the $600 bullet and get ones i know would fit in the first place. damn chinese bastards wont just give me my money back though, they sent out another set.

and edit: just a note, i havent test fitted on a motor as i havent been around a spare m20, i plan to test the set i have now and the set that are on the way asap, before i install them. if either one fits they will be on my car.

ninja edit 2: i forgot to mention looking at the front side of the x pipe the two input tubes are facing away from eachother so there is no way to line the primarys right. it looks like they use a 3 piece x pipe which looks different from all the other companies ive seen. they have the 2 input tubes that get welded into the actual x itself, it seems mine were welded in a improper angles.

I got these for $400 from the UK

they are certainly not made as well as the originals (B2B) but I test fitted them onto my spare head and they fit perfectly. I won't be using the x-pipe as I have plans for a single exhaust, but it's good enough quality that I probably could if I had to.

It seems the chinese stuff is hit or miss. Sometimes I think I should have gotten them for $113 shipped back when the financial crisis was at it's worst, but these are at least "good" quality and I also happened to buy them when the pound was at historic lows vs the $. :)

Good point. You'll get 3 times the acceleration bump out of a 5-speed swap then you will out of some headers. Seriously, you've done some great upgrades to your car. But you have yet to take care of the biggest performance inhibitor yet.

Just bite the bullet and do it.

I know, its something I want to do, but this was my birthday gift, and it was under $200, I had this choice or just get a bunch of random stuff. I figured why not.:)

How many man-hours do you think goes into making a set of headers?

I'm surprised nobody has taken it upon themselves to copy a good design and have their own made up. Think it would be any cheaper than the name brand sets for sale?

I thought about making some because I have a welder in the garage, but I don't think it would be worth it when the Chinese can sell them for $113 plus shipping, and even if the cheap Chinese headers need some modification I think in the long run it would be cheaper.(i'll find out for sure on sunday or monday).

I have these same headers on my car. I believe there was a thread pertaining to these floating around in the M20 forum a few months ago...

The short version is, that for the $, these can't be beat. Sure, it's China and screw-the-commies and keep-the-Dollars-in-this-country, but there's just no way you could even BUILD a set for this price. They're all-stainless, TIG-welded (inside, too, in a lot of places), polished, and fit pretty good. I've dealt with a lot of different headers on a lot of different cars, and I rate the fit on these a 7.5/10. The primaries don't hit the car, but the end of the x-pipe does (pointed up a bit too far), and they were a bit difficult to wrestle into place. And I was thoroughly impressed with the speed at which the Chinese shipping system moved the header several thousand miles. The box arrived by courier 3 DAYS after my order. Unbelievable...

The tubes are a little thin, but they're stainless and won't burn or rust through anytime soon. The clamp bolts (4) come with nylon locknuts. Duuurrrr... The X-pipe is well-designed and effective from a exhaust tuning standpoint. The outlets fit nicely over 2" pipe. I don't know how well the stock exhaust ties in, as I built my own system from the collector back. The separate head flanges actually help quite a bit during install to allow them to line up. There's only one way to get them on in the car, and that's to put the rear section on first (90% sure on this...). Seems weird, but otherwise, there's no way to cram the other half in around the pipework. Your oxygen sensor wires will need to be lengthened about 18" (if I remember correctly).

You'll want to dimple the primaries for the top bolts for cyls 4 and 6. Trust me-do this while the header is out. I'm using ARP 12-point undersize-head nuts, and it's still quite difficult to get a socket on those two. The rest are actually pretty easy to get to, as long as you have the dexterity of an experienced wrench spinner. Without dimpling, the only way to tighten those two nuts is a wrench. But then there's the goddamn heat shields, which you will still need. Forget using the gaskets they sent and stick with a new set of stock ones. Some spray-copper helps them stick.

how did you go about dimpling them?

                            to jump on this.

aren't those the same as these headers:

                            http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/show...hinese+headers
Yes same company, and looks like they took the critique to heart and started using 2 gas sources for the TIG (one on the inside of the tube as well) and are doing much a better job on them.
