also if you read up on 8thcivic.com you can get some good info about them. another bad thing is that they are already steeling these cars. i have heard of a few hear in so cal being stolen non SI too
Civic's have been on the top ten list of stolen cars for years now.

Let him get what he wants its his money..... plus who do you think he's going to come to when his timing belt snaps? When his car wont start mysteriously?

tell him to buy an LX and get something "fun" on the side...thats what I did. And if he has any stance at all I bet he can get it down a smig but 24K seems to be alright. I like my civic for point A to point B, its comfortable..it drives well (some what sporty) and has a warranty. Warranty= less money in new car, more money in toy

            Ding ding ding..

I learned this many, many, many years ago when trying to convert people off of AOL back in the mid 90's. Don't do it.

Let them have simple and boring. Most people don't want to fuck with stuff. You have to fuck with an e30 to keep it fun. He wants a Honda that starts up every morning, requires no maintenance other than oil changes at the dealer and brake pads every 100k, and is dead nuts reliable (save for exploding trannys every 40k*cough*cough*) Let him have it. Nod your head and smile when he talks about his brospeed exhaust & AEM intake giving him 35 rwhp, and then change the subject.

Yea, I've realized something, I never recommend BMWs to anyone.

I say let him buy what he wants. I actually own a 07 si and its a great car (also super fun for auto-x). BUT I'm too afraid of wrecking/breaking (driving it into something etc....) it so I sold off my performance parts and I'm looking for an e30 right now (going to see a 1986 325es today >.< ). Maybe its just me and hondas but that si should last you ten years easy.

Tell him to get a 09 cobalt ss, they are simply the most bad ass front wheel drive car made today.

I looks like a rental car but they are bloody fast, you dont have to lift for up-shifting and handle very well. I test drove one a few days ago and way very impressed.

plus it can do the nurburgring in under 9 minutes!

Yes, and it will be in every other week for warranty problems, not to mention the interior will fall apart. They are good fun though.

My question is why are you not having him look at new BMW's like an e46 or higher? My buddy just picked up a great 2005 325i with 30k on the clock for just under $20K in perfect condition with a certified BMW warranty. He clearly doesn't want to work on a car like an e30/4/6 so don't steer him that way. Go look at certified used BMW's and get him something in the $20-25k range that's less than 5 years old.

Civic's are great car's for reliability, etc, etc. I personally don't like them but then again I like working on cars and don't mind the investment.

Thats what i would steer him towards. When it was time for my mom to get a car, i did a similar strategy with the z3 3.0. It was uber clean, low miles, and the driving experience was just a tadd more extiting the the mazda mpv it replaced.

It wasnt too expenisve, and she was willing to put up with matienence.

Before all this, she didnt even like BMWs, now she LOVES the z3 :D

It can be done, but he obviously isnt one of us, youre going to have to at least try to get something comparably practical
