Did you suggest a certified pre-owned WRX or EVO yet? Either of those would be way more fun (faster), just as practical, and within his price range. If he gets a certified car he'll have a very decent warranty.

I was about to say the exact same thing. A WRX for around 15 would give him a solid, low mileage, fast, well-handling, and reliable car.

Let them have simple and boring. Most people don't want to fuck with stuff. You have to fuck with an e30 to keep it fun. He wants a Honda that starts up every morning, requires no maintenance other than oil changes at the dealer and brake pads every 100k, and is dead nuts reliable (save for exploding trannys every 40k*cough*cough*) Let him have it. Nod your head and smile when he talks about his brospeed exhaust & AEM intake giving him 35 rwhp, and then change the subject.

Yea, I've realized something, I never recommend BMWs to anyone.

Interior isn't as nice but they are faster.

SIs can be made pretty quick pretty easily. It doesn't take a FAST car to be fun.

Let him get the SI. Then drive it and maybe you won't be so upset. :)

the new Civic Si is a great car. e30s arent for everyone. i think itd be a waste of a good 20k e30 m3 if he bought it as he's not into the car and it shhould go to an enthusiast

let him buys the civic and after he's had it for a week, let him drive your car so he will see how much he hates his.

I would never daily drive a car with out a warranty if I could afford to avoid it. Its really nice if you have a problem or need an oil change to just drop it off at the dealer, get a loaner car, then pick it up later all nice and clean and not pay a cent. I love old BMWs and working on my cars but I enjoy working on them on my terms and for fun. Not because of the "if I dont fix this by the morning I cant get to work" situation.
