    Speeding Tickets

I'm in California and the Speed law states

22350. No person shall drive a vehicle upon a highway at a speed
greater than is reasonable or prudent having due regard for weather,
visibility, the traffic on, and the surface and width of, the
highway, and in no event at a speed which endangers the safety of
    persons or property.

"#1 Ln Pass 3 V's Visual 60 Laser -100-451. C3 To Beverly "Late" In and Out of V's E/B To Stop"

That's what the cop wrote on my ticket and most of it is true...I was late to work and I was weaving through traffic. Laser gun reported I did, anyone know any tricks of how to beat such a ticket in California?

You didn't mention if this ticket was issued by the local authorities or the CHP. If its the latter, best of luck contesting it. CHP officers always show up for scheduled court appearances....they get double-time pay to do so, even on their day off. And when it comes down to it, who do you think the judge is going to believe....Mr. E30 owner or the guy trying to raise some revenue for the state?

Now if a local cop wrote you the ticket, you "might" have a chance at beating it. I know that here in Sacramento if you get a ticket from a city cop and schedule a court date to contest it and the city cop is a no show (which happens often in Sacramento), then the judge has no choice but to drop the charges. I guess there's no financial incentive offered to the local cops to make court appearances....unlike the CHP. Its worth looking into. I know two people here that got ticketed by a local badge and had the charges dismissed.

More money is going to the cop to show up then they are getting from the ticket I bet.

Is that Beverly in Beverly Hills or Los Angeles? Is it downtown or on the westside? Depending on where you were (if L.A.) you could get lucky & the officer might not show up. If it's B.H. thay always show up.

Beverly Hills Police Department :( I was heading Eastbound towards Beverly Drive(Beverly Hills, Rodeo Drive), not Beverly Blvd as you say parkerpink.

I contested. The officer cited me for 22350 V.C (Vehicle Code) and I'm praying that hopefully the judge will dismiss the case because I'm going to ask the cop for an 'engineering report' and his failure to show such report, as I hear, will result in dismissal.

I had 13 tickets in 18 months in that area in the early 90's so I know who shows up & who doesn't B.H. P.D. always shows. You may be able to beat it with the report but they may give a continuance for it to be entered into evidence. I got off in Ruth Steins court (she still there?) by entering into evidence that my car was not the same color on both sides!

I had a 72 2002 that I was taking to be stripped. I had stripped the passenger side myself before I gave up and was taking it to the body shop to be stripped (doing pretty much what you were cited for IN FRONT OF THE COURT ON BEVERLY DRIVE! I evaded the police (unknowingly) but on the way back 3 hours later was pulled over & given a ticket. The officer wasn't the one that had seen me going and put the color of the car at the time (bare metal) on the ticket. IThe officer that saw me had to testify he had seen a brown car but it said silver on the ticket. I still chuckle about it 20 years plus later!

my room-mate is in the process of fighting a trafic ticket as well and in my opinion you might as well fight i;t they can't smack you with anymore fines for fighting it so you might as well. in court i'd ask to see records that the laser was properly calibrated that day as well as proof that the cop knew how to use it etc. when my roomy returns ill ask him what else (other than laser calibration) he intends to bring up in court and repost. in the mean time i recomend that you do some resarch on how laser guns work and the cops operating procedure. good luck

I know getting tickets suck (I just got one 3-4 weeks ago 85 in a 65 by the CHP) but if you did it why fight it? How is it the cops fault or anyone else's?

This summer I got a ticket in California when I missed a stop sign and totaled my Mustang. What pissed me off was that they fined me for TWO things:

VC 21802A FAILURE TO YIELD RIGHT OF WAY and
                      PC 1465.8 COURT SECURITY SRCHG

I did some research on this last fee and:

Question: 1465.8 PC - Why does this appear as a charge?

Pursuant to Penal Code Section 1465.8, an additional $20.00 fee per case is imposed on any conviction for an infraction, misdemeanor, felony or on any traffic violation dismissed by traffic school. The section will not appear as a conviction on your driving record.
They charge everyone an extra $20 to every case because they can? Its ridiculously amazing what they can get away with. FIGHT YOUR TICKET

I got a ticket in the 90's in Kings county Washington, because I had California plates, the Sheriff's Deputy figured I'd just pay. it was for speeding 20 feet out of the driveway I pulled out of she said I was going 75! My 300ZX was fast but a formula car couldn't get up to that speed in 20feet! I mailed a letter to the Sheriff, asked him to look into the officer's record of ticketing out of state cars & the ticket was dismissed!!!! I got 2 other tickets on the trip home, one on Oregon & one in front of my house in Santa Monica!

just got a ticket dismissed today. I got it driving to the beach, doing 73 in a 55 which is normal traffic speeds if you ask me. Anyway, the officer somehow wrote my moms name on the ticket instead of mine. :D He must have felt like an idiot in front of the judge.
