go to real oem, input the last seven numbers of the vin, and check the vehicle trim section. it will the show the m-tech bits that the car was built with. non-mtech cars won't link to the same trim diagrams and won't show the m-tech bits. diamanschwarz was one of the m-tech colors.

front trim : RealOEM.com - Online BMW Parts Catalog
rear trim : RealOEM.com - Online BMW Parts Catalog

that's what i get when using your vin. those diagrams won't show up if it's a non m-tech that someone has tossed some panels on to. also go have a look at e30net, they have info on the m-tech cars, it's euro centric though.

every e30 is considered a euro car as none were built in north america. there is no marker to indicate which market or country it was originally sold into, though they would have been equipped slightly different depending on which country. there were a fair number of appearance pack cars sold new in canada, so it's possible it was sold new here. i know of at least one locally. seems to be more common as a 4-door, but i've seen the coupe pop up for sale as well. so many guys slapped the kits on to the things in the 90's that it's near impossible to tell without the original build sheet. they were also a popular model to privately import.

i've been told option code 771 is a full m-tech, option 770 is the appearance pack. not sure if we even got the 771 full m-tech. hope some of that helps.

He just means his car is a euro spec car vs US which makes all the difference in the world. I don't know enough about euro spec models to tell if it's original or not since they had all options a'la carte available to them that we didn't. We only got the M tech 2 package in the form of option codes 770/771 and they only applied to certain 91-92 convertible models. So those codes don't apply to his car. Only way to tell for sure if his car is an "M tech" is perhaps contact BMW mobile tradition/classic for a build certificate that shows what it officially came with.

I know a chap at BMW Historical Document Centre in Munich. They charge for providing information, but would expect they will be able to provide you with the info you're after. Let me know if you want their details and I'll send over.

When I look it up it doesn't show up as an original M-Tech 2 car. It came with some M-Tech goodies though, but not the bumpers ect.
