A new "ride" in the stable and some E30 updates

So with the turbo M42 car being down for the next month, I've been working on my 1991 318i, trying to get it ready for Vintage at the Vineyards '09 in North Carolina next week. Been making some good progress in the last 2 weeks too since I pulled the 230K M42 2 weeks ago and did the E36 5-lug w/ GC Coilovers and Koni SAs last weekend.

This week I've mostly been prepping the motor and doing the usual maintenance before dropping it in later today. Only bolt-ons are a UUC 8.5lb. Flywheel/M5 Clutch setup and some chinese supersprint knock-off headers. I'll be fabbing up the exhaust this weekend and here is what the setup will consist of: Flowmaster Y-pipe to Borla 2.5" XR-1 Muffler ending in a Vibrant Flat Black Street Power muffler. Single 2.5" all the way back.

So here are some shots of the car currently after I pushed it outside. I have some MHWs to throw on too before the event. I'd really like to paint or powdercoat some DSI's green to match the valve cover and strut housings. I'd say it'd look good on Alpine-II.

The coils are 1/2 way down on the back and 2/3 down on the front, but it should change quite a bit with the motor and trans in the car. Here is the engine as it sits currently.

And since I know a few of you ride, here is my dad's most recent purchase.

2009 BMW F800 ST, brand new delivered 2 days ago. I'm a big waffleswaffleswaffleswaffleswaffles when it comes to motorcycles, but my old man used to own a few bikes (Pentons mostly) to motocross and trials back in the late 60's/early 70's.

Any comments, suggestions or typical r3v bitching about picture quality welcome.

Not bad man, that's an impressive setup let alone doing all of it in just over a week's time. Glad to see I'm not the only one doing pre-V@V work to my car.

Look forward to seeing it next weekend.

Thanks man, really looking forward to getting it all buttoned back up and running. The car is filthy and my valence is all bashed up on either side, but I don't really detail my cars, just drive them. Just looking for a good front Alpine-II valence at this point.

Def. looking forward to seeing your "i" powered ETA with the euro bumpers added. Always dig the early models. 4 doors unite!

Well either this car, my dad's turbo M42 car, the S50-powered E34 Touring, or the Euro E28 (if I can get it back together) that I brought last year.

I have my options open. :D

You and your dad have too much fun.

No luck selling the 318 so why not throw money at it.
Cant wait to see it done. Green DS2s would look sick.
Your turbo m42 car is probably my favorite on the forum.

And bikes make all cars seem slow.

Thanks a bunch Hunter, that means a lot. His and my cars are really nothing special exterior-wise and the pictures on the forum do them more justice than they deserve. They all have dings, dents, a little rust and so-so paint, but the place where they shine is mechanically. Don't get me wrong, I have a ton of respect for people that detail their cars and keep them clean all the time, it just isn't for me.

Thanks again for the compliments and glad someone else thinks green DSI or IIs would look good.

Kind of a pain to fit on, I have to put the exhaust manifold studs on after you place the headers on, which make it a pain. They are coated in some clear crap that peals off and looks ugly. Welds are terrible and the insides need to be grinded down to match.

Other than that, they aren't bad for $120 shipped and I didn't expect much for that price. If you use them, make sure you use an 18mm copper crush washer when you plug the O2 sensor bungs.

You need to rent a car hauler. The S50 e34it would be a hit at Show & Shine.
