Funny, my buddy just did the same suspension, same wheels, and same tire size and he is having rubbing, although very seldom. We rolled his fenders too!

IMO, cutting coils is ftl. If you can get your hands on some drophats for the front, that is the way I would go. This guy is running IE3's with drophats, and the stance is perfect:

Cutting dead coils changes nothing but ride height. The coils literally sit on each other and do nothing.

That is something I will consider.

I assume using the GC SpecE30 style with OEM style Bilstein will acheive the lowering? Removing the thick OEM upper strut bearing and replacing with this is what I assume happens and saves a good 1/2 inch...

yea i dont want to see this turn into a "cutting your coils is ghetto and stupid thread" you are cutting a dead coil and i think its a fine way to achieve the drop.

Car looks great so far. I cut 1.5 coils up front and 2 out back on my e12 and will soon cut more, it rides tons better. But they are stock so the rate changed nicely

Didn't know about the GC plates dropping me another 1/2in. That could totally get me closer to the goal...

                          Looks good.

I'm not sure who informed you on the "dead coil" thing but that is not the case. It will increase the spring rate, decrease the re-sale value, and shorten your strut travel. I am against cutting springs.

As mentioned in other threads, you should have gone with H&R race as it would have given a much better stance vs. IE3's. I highly suggest the GC camber plates. They lower the front (more than 1/2"), give you more strut travel, and allow you to adjust camber/caster.

Anywho, keep up the good work. The car is coming along mighty fast.

H&R Race though doesn't have enough rate in my opinion. If they lower more than 1/2in I will order those tomorrow. I will call GC to make sure I get the proper ones.

Rate... like they are too soft for how much they lower. In every car from E36 to E30 to VWs to everything... too soft for the drop.

On the M3 I had the bilsteins revalved and shortened so they could actually work properly with them.

Pics with IE3 and GC plates?

IE3s and Races supposedly have the same rate.

Calling GC is the only way to go. They are $300 though, so it's not like they are cheap.

                                Found it.
