Well, props for trying something that only a few have. I think you should re-do it, and at least include the factory HVAC controls.

You need to attempt to make it look like the car rolled off the lot in 1987 with a damn touchscreen DVD player installed.

Then, and only then, will you have r3v approval.

IMO, this is what you should do:
relocate the defrost and hazard buttons leftward, on the right side of the trim panel that spans underneath the gauge cluster.
Get rid of the fader button and window breaker.
    Move the double-din player top-leftish.
Place HVAC controls in their factory location.
Place Euro analog clock top rightish. Or maybe a couple of stacked VDO gauges.
Get a trim panel cut out that is actually the correct size and shape.

I love seeing everyone get all butthurt just because the majority of people don't like something "original and outside the box" that someone did. Get over yourselves. You'll notice the OP isn't getting butthurt because people don't like it. Why do people feel the need to get upset FOR someone that isn't getting upset in the first place?

If your biggest requisite for making something look good is to get R3V approval, you've got bigger issues. The makings of this to look good are there. This is clearly the first attempt, and it needs to be refined. That is my opinion, and while I'm confident the OP will take that constructively, I'm unsure about the rest of the defenders of truth and justice seeing it the same way.

i like it, with a " better fitment" panel it will look 10x better.

it's not terrible, but the fitment sucks as is the positioning of everything. could have been executed much better. that's what really kills it.

                I'm confused...

You first call this terrible, and then say that it is "original and outside the box"

The only post in this thread that sounds upset or butthurt is quoted above.

I'm talking about all the people that are getting mad about people, such as me, NOT liking it because it's something "different". I am not calling it original or outside the box. The reason for the quotes is to illustrate what the people defending it are trying to paint it as. Read a little more closely.

The OP is not upset that we don't like it. The only ones getting upset are the people getting upset FOR him.

I'm going to give recommendations as if this were going in my car.

I'd first off, absolutely require a better fit. The original HVAC isn't all that complexly patterned; just a few notches on the left and a sharper round on the upper right. Could be cut by hand with a jigsaw. Additionally, that particular plastic has a seriously rough appearance that matches essentially nothing else in the car.

Second, I need to have HVAC controls because I don't always like air in my face, or on my feet. I'd see about rotating 90* and putting it on the left where the switches are. I'd move the head unit up and to the right assuming there is room inside the dash and place the switches underneath that in a horizontal row.

In the bottom left, below the HVAC sliders, I'd move the adjustment knobs to and fabricate a smaller knob that would fit in the room provided.

All in all, not a bad first attempt, but personally, I'd've put more planning into it to begin with. It could be better if you were willing to put the time and thought into it.

I hope you go ahead and make a better version of it, because it's a good idea. If you do, good luck!

Double Din in E30 takes a little more work than this IMO. I think it being in the lower section is better.

                                Yep

as said, should have shorted together/deleted the window breaker together, and got rid of the speaker balancer. waste of time having that when i will put money on you being able to balance the speakers on the head unit anyway.

should have gone for a flip out single DIN or got a headunit with a standalone monitor. double DIN does not belong in E30
