AVIC F500BT in the lower section is the weinner, IMO.
Of course, that is what I have, so I might be biased.
All of you guys suggesting a Double ISO (there aren't any "double DINs on the market, not fucking one) in the center console have obviously never held a "Double DIN" in your hands, nor taken apart a center console...or you just absolutely suck ass at spatial geometry. No fucking way is it gonna fit nicely in that space without chopping a hole in your transmission tunnel.
Back to the OP: May I suggest a few things?
1. Wrap that panel (maybe make a new one of of 1/4" MDF) in vinyl, or bondo, texture and paint. Old school ABS never worked in an E30, ever.
If you must use ABS, make filler panels for the stock panel, bondo it and then texture/paint. All of the supplies you need can be found at "Autobody Supply Stores".

2. You are gonna need longer control cables to use your HVAC panel. No matter if you try higher or lower, those cables aren't gonna flex enough. You might get by with bicycle cables, the super high grade ones that are teflon lined.
3. Like Rhett said, move the 2 buttons that need to be kept, lose the others. To get a perfect match on your dash panels, paint all of them. Maybe chop a HVAC bezel to fit the switch carriers into the panel left of the radio panel, then re-texture and re-paint all the plastic on the dash.
