Get a set of plastic bumpers...save the diving boards for when you decide to sell the car. It's an 88 so it's a plug and play swap.
New paint job

Love how my car gets quoted as an example of the early iS airdam and bumper tuck...IMO, the best looking E30 airdam, bar none.
Of course, having that damn cow catcher on the front of my car means I scrape it every time I drive it, so annual repaint is expected, but I love it so I don't care.Comment

What kind of air dam is that?

Yeah I have read shit about euro bumpers and was wondering, is it a whole new bumper or is it just a center insert and how much does a front/rear run you? And do people generally drill their bumper shocks on these setups to push them in more? thanksLast edited by CR325IS; 03-25-2010, 04:45 PM.sigpicComment

YES!! I couldn't have said it better myself.I would leave everything as it is, but add an iS front lip.
Definitely leave the rockers black. If you paint them red, your car will give off the sense that it had a quick-hack paint job. I wouldn't paint the bumper surrounds either.
Right now, your car looks the way it rolled off the assembly line (minus front lip) in 1988. If you were to sell it today, it would fetch a premium among the purists.
Sometimes, less is more....just my 2 cents.Comment

You can't put euro bumpers on an '88, it has a late-model body. Only plastics are a direct swap.
Don't leave the diving boards, they look terrible. Here's some inspiration:
