    Rubber Beef?

Holy hell, my new track wheel+tire package disagrees with my car immensely, but holy hell does this car fucking grip like a mofo now... Kosei K1s coupled with Hoosier race slicks. Rubs the front fenders just turning mildly, and rubs the inner rear wheelhousing under severe load.

Anyone familiar with the Conti Tire Sports Car Challenge aka Grand Am Cup knows these tires. Damn, the sizes are nothing like what they are supposed to be. This is a 225/45/17... which in width, somehow manages to size up as big as a 245 sized tire. Beside a stack of 235 Toyo R Compounds, the Hoosiers are a good half inch taller. 225 my ass, LOL.

A few cell phone pics from the end of Friday afternoon at the racetrack:

Just thought you guys might like it. Cheers!

Hoosiers generally run wide from what I hear. The 225/50/14 R3s04's I had were a little over 240mm which caused some problems under load in the rear inner fender.

Hoosiers (and most R-comps) always run wide. if you look in their catalogue it tells you how wide it really is with their specified tire width. My 225/50-14 AS305's were about 245mm on a 14x6.5" basketweave.

                  I think my 235/50-15 R888s are 250mm on a 15x7.5" wheel.

it also begs the question as to why everyone thinks you can't run wider than a 225 street tire on a late body E30. Probably the obsession with copying the VW look - low offset/stretch.

Mostly because finding anything larger than a 225 for 15's/16's in a street tire is quite hard to do. And because people are afraid of rolling their fenders for some reason.

H&R Races, one coil cut up front. Not recommended either. Raised the spring rate up about a 100lbs (on average, as it is progressive afterall)

Yessir! I got lots of props from the other Instructors driving E30s... I had to push it, but it was possible to stick with E36 M3s, a few gutted/caged swapped E30s...

Ya man, that inner fender is all rubbed to crap now. Nothing a BFH can't fix :)

You know, interestingly, in my Fathers shop, we have a lot of take off slicks from ALMS guys. The 240/640/18 Yokohama slicks are actually a lot narrower than my Hoosiers. That was even more puzzling for me. I think some of these companies fail at measuring their tires LOL.

Different car. Always was a black lip. Always was, always will. Well, actually no. The lip and bumpers are coming off shortly, these are the last pictures of my car with plastic bumpers.

Nope. Spun a rod bearing on the original motor. Just a mild 2.7 under the hood currently.
