Tackled timing belt job....thanks E30darkknight for all ur help once again!!!
I kind of went a little crazy buying excess parts which I didn't use, so if anyone out there is in need of brand new misc coolant hoses, new seals, new clamps, new ac belt hit me up.

just love those aluminum cluster rings. much more appropriate than the chrome ones I ended up with. gonna have to change em out and add the alpina stripe too.
yeah total bummer on the cluster, but your gauges are ok and your odo still works right? not like you have electronic odo or anything. upgrade time lol. get a euro cluster and retrofit the K9 relay and rear fog light! it's an IX man. while you're at it pick up the heated washer nozzles, headlamp cleaning system and heated driver door lock thingy. hard to find the IX dual washer tank though. e30m3s54turbo (Raul) has one.
Really cool to have a voltmeter now, and that's definitely a clean way to do it! Not feeling the LED digit readout though. George has an LED strip AFR gauge right? I'd definitely go that route for a voltmeter, or convert the MPG gauge.
Those switch blank areas above the HVAC panel are definitely the right place for them. I also used an extra fog light switch for a hartmann antenna bypass on my vert. so now the antenna us only used when the radio is on - saves wear and tear. I have one open slot left...
OEM+ or bust! reelizmpro: I will always be an e30 guy.. I still do all of my own labor TrentW: There's just something so right about a well-built M20 in an E30 e30m3s54turbo: I save my money for tuner parts.

That's actually a pretty cool mod for the power antenna....was always wondering if that could be done since I hate it being up when I'm using the tape deck.
Thanks to E30darkknight above, he gave me a spare circuit board he had to remedy my issue. =)
The bummer is, I just found another torn cv boot yesterday =/ never ends!

Here's some instructions from this post on my build thread (it also talks about bypassing the obsolete premium amp and adding a class D switching amp in the radio area up front).
Finally regarding the power antenna, I wired in a fog light switch above the radio for it like others here. Pretty easy to wire up. Just trace the 2 white radio wires in the dash back to a clear connector in the stock harness. The one for the antenna has a female connector that you can pull from the clear connector. The other one is for the premium amp. You want both wired to your radio antenna on wire (blue/white for aftermarket radios), but you want the white antenna wire to go through the fog light switch first. As long as the head unit is on you can use the switch to raise and lower your power antenna. When the head unit is off it will retract as usual.

Truth. :curse:
my current short list on the vert (all unplanned of course)
- small power steering leak on the high pressure side
- drivers side windshield washer stopped working a couple of days after finishing the HLCS+intensive clean setup
- 3rd gear synchro starting to go when cold
and of course the de-rerusting on my IX.. lots of hidden cancer there. just found rot in the passenger lower rocker under the side fairing. that was expected though.

That damage would not be caused just from using a higher rated fuse. The fuse is only there for circuit protection. You probably have a short to ground somewhere, which is what caused your 7.5 to pop. Check the reverse light wires near your shifter, sometimes the wire will fray and cause a short to ground.

the short was due to a euro clock I recently installed. I removed it and put my 6-button back in, and it didn't pop the 7.5a fuse anymore. I'm not sure if it was the clock or the harness I used, but either way neither is going back in the car.

Just placed an order for a new headunit.....as much as I wanted to keep the cassette deck, every replacement I've put in there have been bad....
Pioneer DEH-80PRS
I'm a little weary on the fitment of this. Crutchfield says it won't exactly fit due to the depth (6.9375), while apparently there is only 6.9 of room in there for this. Anyone have tips on making it sit flush or have this exact unit installed in their E30?
Some pics I stole on the internet of the unit (not of my car)
