I'd stick with the M10 over an M50 anyday, best bang for the buck IMO.

Everything Danny said here is 100% correct (damn, I feel dirty all of a sudden). The M10 is a much stronger platform for turboing and is a much much cheeper engine all around. Just think 2002 Turbo and the E30 M3, which is M10 based.
If the OP wants maximum power for the minimum hassle, turbo M10 is definatley the way to go.Comment

lol, you can get pretty good numbers on stock motronic and stock internals. You can push 12 psi on stock Motronic, so I've heard.Your signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.

you won't need headers -- you can flip over the exhaust manifold and put a turbo flange on the collector, it's what 2002 guys do. It's log style so you'll get one end really hot, but it's cheap as fuck.
I have 30# injectors from my old 1995 turbo volvo, which is nice to compensate for the higher fuel need. You'll need some management, at the very least a wideband.
after that, you're talking about a downpipe and IC pipe and intake pipe fabbing. Then you need your coolant and oil. RRFPR wouldn't hurt either to compensate for the turbo charge in the intake.
I'm sure I'm missing something, but that's the basics.'84 318i M10B18 147- Safari Beige
