Dammit, why?

I helped a friend of mine inspect an e30 for purchase a few months ago.
FFWD to a few weeks ago when we had some decent snow. He parks it in a guardrail.
(sigh)
Just the driver's rear quarter. Really the only thing that's super jacked up is the hole for the taillight. (Anyone have DS taillight? 88, so facelift) Otherwise drives fine, normal e30 issues.
Surprise, Insurance Co. totals it. He asks if I want it for the buyback price.

88 ix. 2 door, black leather, 5 speed.

Guess I'll be working out those cheapo body tools REALLY soon, and if that fails, gonna break out the welder.
I already have plastic bumpers for it.
I am insane.

I had at least 24 hours of my time invested in it. He sent me the photo, I was like ffffuuuuuuu...

That's the plan. Maybe some tint and the plastic bumpers. That's IT.

Just curious... are there alot of e30 owners running around with full coverage insurance or something? I always hear of people buying cars back.

Maybe it's me but I refuse to fully cover a car that, if pitched, the insurance company will try to give me $2300 for and then want me to buy it back. LOL I have about $7500 into my car so far and would be close to blows should someone offer me $2300 for it.

If I get into an accident... tow it back to my house, part it, buy new e30 to transplant old goodies. No need to deal with insurance.

my dad manages like 4 diff AAA and he only has partial with me. they will never give you what your car is worth, they dont care how much is into it. so yeah, part it out would prolly get u more.
