Drove it home last night and parked it in the garage.
    Started inspection.
(I helped my friend with the pre-purchase inspections, but I forgot how relatively rust free this car is...)

Lotsa moisture and water in the trunk, he had it parked outside since December, and we've gotten decent precipitation. I pulled the carpet, and mouse fur to look at the bashed in section and discovered about 2 inches of water in the jack holder area. Soaked most of it up and left trunk open in garage to dry it out. Will have to take pictures soon. I think I can beat the dent out pretty well. Holy shit, is there a lot of tar in the trunk! It looks like roughly DOUBLE the amount that was in my regular e30...

Took a quick look at the boots on the front halfshafts. Inner boot on RF halfshaft is torn. :(
Wonder if I'll find more torn boots.

Driving it home, it has a LOUD RF wheel bearing. I've never had a bad one on the front before, but it sounds just like one on the rear. WowWowWow, speed dependent. (I'm sure the EIGHTEEN INCH wheels that were on the car when my buddy bought it didn't help. Thanks for the 15" weaves, Levent!) Guess that B90 tool is gonna get some work.

Engine bay is clean, but there is a small oil leak that I need to track down.

I'm ordering boots, brakes, and bearings all around from Blunt to start.
Gotta figure out how to gauge the health of the 4WD system, change fluids, etc.
I'll do an air 'dyno' to see what kind of 4WD action I can check out. I'm still mystified by the system.
Levent is supplying a tail light.
I have plastic bumpers already. (rear bumper from 2 e30s ago, I knew I held onto it for a reason!)
I think I'm going to try my Monaco seats on for size in this car, they don't quite fit the e28.
I have a spoon in the spaghetti shifter, that should be fun to rebuild.
    .... and CLEAN, of course.

    I'll be posting pics later.

        (sigh)
        What do you think?

Like I said before, I'm pretty sure that the wheel bearing on that corner is cooked.

p.s. The Monaco seats don't fit.

          No workie. :(

Oil is dripping from the transmission/engine mating surface... ummmmmm.

You mean to tell me that NO ONE has jacked from the gas tank on this car? Holy shit.

Boot's torn, and hey, in the upper left hand corner, maybe that's my oil leak...

I think this spring perch is a little jacked up, hard to see from this angle.

          Some rust. Battery tray.

          Other side, below crash damage.

                UPDATE:
I emailed Jenny Morgan @ Roundel about the car, sent her the vid link, and this was her response:

                Hard to say. . .

The front diff is an open diff. That means if one wheel has more friction than the other, the least resistance wheel turns. I'd try to give the passenger wheel a push while running (BE FREAKING CAREFUL) and see if it starts spinning. The fact that the front turns at all is good. Means the transfer case is working.

A bad wheel bearing is just that, bad. Replace it before you go any further in trying to figger out what's wrong.

Nice steal on your part. Looks quite fixable.

Nah, it's cool. The car was basically FREE. (my e28 535iA for totalled ix and $$, amazing)

I found a taillight. Now I just have to set up my camera to do time-lapse and I can beat out that dent and switch to plastic bumpers. (which, by the way, I picked up the front from you, remember?) I was doing the PO a solid, expecting to help him do the swap, then he wrecked the car.

I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to tell you that your name confuses me. I always am trying to say "LSD Breaker" but it's like someone had a freak attack of turrets mixed with dislexia.

I finally found a way to describe how I feel when reading your name:

                      The Red Dragon V.5 1991 318iS / 2013 F800GT

                        ummmm, thanks?

I keep thinking about changing my name since EVERYONE screws it up.
                        these are the most popular:
                        Idsbeaker (Pronounced Eye-dee-ess)
                        LSDbeaker
                        LSDbReaker

<---I love this little guy, though. Totally captures me.

Maybe I just drop the LDS. My friend keeps calling me "The Wolf".
                        I don't know.

Everybody jacks up my FOREAL name, too. Either it's pronounced wrong, or spelled wrong. I can't win.

dude, we will have matching red late model ix coupes.

i just purchased one. 1989. 164k miles. the seller claims no rust and indeed the photos look quite mint. only downside is that it is an auto. but that will be corrected eventually. i'm having it shipped here, should be in my hands sometime next week.

also, when we are going to go shooting? haha, PM me.

                              Wat.

In that case, you are cordially invited to come down and help my sorry ass do the brakes, bearings and boots. Call it OJT, because you WILL need to do it eventually.

                              I'm eager to see yours.

Argh! I keep thinking about going shooting, too! Sorry. Life.
