    Hydrolocked '87 325i

Hey R3V, I have a schwarz 87 325i and during the fall i hydrolocked my m20. throwing a rod and killing my ego, i put the car into storage and pushed the problem out of my mind.
Now with tax returns coming through I am in the personal debate of replacing what is broken or embarking on the m30 motor swap.
I do have a slightly disassembled m30 in storage with it. . .
Asking the enthusiasts their opinion what do you guys think to do?

    What's up Quinn. It's been a while.

Well, you might be able to cheat the job but dropping the pan, seeing which rod is broken/bent and slipping a slug and new rod in from underneath-providing you valves aren't bent. Worse case you remove the head.

Depends on your budget. Drop another m20 in it for the time being so you can drive it while you start piecing together your M30 swap

dropping the pan is a smart start to see what damage has happened. well considering this car is my summer cruiser i dont have a problem with it sitting. I have the epitome of a POS 85 318i as my daily driver. I want to get this 325i back and running.
Of coarse having the power of the m30 is on my mind and also the labor too. I guess i shouldnt be lazy on a swap like this though

Find the problem, fix the problem -add gas and drive! The m30 swap though inexpensive, will swallow up your tax return and then some. On the flip, I get a big $#*! eating grin everytime I throw my rear end out!

Sell the m30 stuff, rebuild your m20.

Do m30 swap if u have the funds, nice tork n if you do decide on my choice do late m30. Lager valves more powet than early or mid. I have see n driven that sway nice upgrade n worth every penny imo.
