It's a stock '85 eta on bottlecaps, that kicks everyone's ass every event.

Here are the results from last month's trials, top 5:

    Paul Monaghan 12 MINI Cooper HS 0:54.01 0:41.97 100.00
    Steve Mason 23 BMW 325e DSP 0:54.24 0:44.59 94.12
    Nik Klummer 7 MINI Cooper HS 0:57.51 0:44.69 93.91
    Herman Lau 9 MINI Cooper S ESP 0:55.15 0:45.55 92.12
    Rolf Lange 15 BMW 325is DSP 0:55.82 0:45.88 91.46

Just for reference, that 5th place 325iS is an E30, with a cage, 225 R-compounds, and the guy who drives it designs the course every month (he's crazy experienced, too). Steve with the eta just started 'crossing in April, this was his second event, ever. And now he is back in the stock class (rather than DSP) because he removed his chip (the only engine mod).

maybe it's that extra low end torque and the fact no one is making the most out of the top end??

      who knows.

;) You'd know all about the demon 325e at autoxes.
The BMW 318 is back. With a vengeance.

I don't get how the n00b is tearing up on the guy who is experienced and designs the courses then, in a better and faster car....

One thing about perception versus reality. It is present in every sport. There's always the surprise new guy. The fact someone is a newb at auto-x doesn't mean they are a noob at driving. So many people get ticked off when novice drivers beat them or when female driver's beat them haha

A better and a faster car will not give you good times. Hence me saying, it's the nut behind the wheel.

It's hilarious watching these guys, with E46 M3's, 285's all around, full TC Kline DA suspensions getting spanked by stock cars everywhere. That's why I love auto-x, it's all in the driver. I mean once you hit nationals and everyone is a good driver, car setup matters. But in these events, forget it. This is also why I have long stopped upgrading my suspension, I may shave off 2% of my time by spending $400 on sways, or I could just spend $400 on driving events and learn to drive any car x% faster.

Steve has also done a bunch of on-track driver training, just not auto-x. He says a lot of the basic principals are the same, as you can probably imagine.

it's autox. he may be a talented driver, but you're redlining 1st and 2nd in a parking lot for 30 seconds. they have tracks in canada, right? trois rivieres, mosport, shit like that...

How do you like the tires for daily driving? I'm looking at these tires for the replacement of the Yokos.

                          ES100's to Ziex's? I'd be careful.

What do you mean? The 512's are supposed to be a great tire - and I'd never buy ES100's again.

I'm not sure which Ziex's Alex (with the red 240sx) has, however those things suck. They offer barely any grip in the dry and even less in the wet.

And I dunno why you dislike the ES100s, they were awsome tires for me.... lasted me about 4-5 drifting events and a year of driving in them. The grip was awsome, even in the wet it was proven a lot more than satisfactory.

I have Kuhmo 711s now and I regret that decision. I should've put in the extra bucks for the ES100s.

The ES100s were good for the first 5,000 miles. After that, they were extremely loud, and eventually lost most of their grip and became out of round.
