E36 M3 would be a good move. I'd trade my E30 M30 for a good M3 in a heart beat... its just hard to find an E36 M3 that hasn't been beat to death by a ricer in this area.

Hahaha it's gone already, along with a lot of other stuff. The vultures started circling about an hour after it happened.

I'll have a list of what's left to be parted-out on the page linked below... later this week probably.

                  Ouch.

That's a nasty hit, what config of the Shenandoah circuit were you guys running?

As I said on the spec e30 list, this reconfirms my decision to run an e30 as a track rat. A 2500 f'up hurts a lot worse than a 25k one.

That is why I decided not to make my IS300 into one and am looking for a hard roofed e30 instead.

Full course, counterclockwise. This hit was against the left side wall at the exit of the right hander onto the straight that goes up under the bridge, like at about 0:57-0:58 in this video:

Oh and check it, I just found these, taken in the two green flag laps before the wreck:

Those were Meyle blue box tie rods, purchased under a BMW part number and installed less than a year (~10k miles) ago. They passed two pre-techs in the ten days before the event just fine. What else could I do?

The purists say meyle is crap but i think even the lemforder rods, under that much abuse in that amount of time, would have done the same thing eventually.

How much does surface rust effect the structural integrity of the rod?

I sell all that stuff daily and the Meyle stuff never looked any worse than the Lemforder or anything else. I sent pics along to the Meyle rep and even he was shocked to see such a thing.

Surface rust was minimal. The outers still have shiny paint on them. Closeup pics of JUST the snapped tie-rod coming soon... disassembly starts tonight

Yup. Bronzits are suicidal, it is still true.

Sad to see your loss, but as others have said, its better that it was a cheap car that can be replaced...
