Like where you're going interior-wise with the black and tan look.

I think dying outer area of door cards black would really help tie things together - and compliment black door pulls well.

For an outline of procedure and an idea of how it would look:

Use frog tape for clean color separation.

      Thanks!

I actually just picked up some vinyl to recover everything. I'm planning on doing black outside with tan inside on the door panels and seats.

Here are the colors I'm working with. These aren't corrected for the florescent light. It's a black and light tan with an "aged leather" look. Good shizzle. :D

I used Duplicolor Vinyl and Fabric in GLOSS black. The gloss black (for whatever reason) seems to give a richer black versus a really dark grey.

I got the DashCap on eBay from a guy in TN. It's the Accuform product. Paid about $120 with shipping. Just do a search for "e30 dashcap". It should come up.

I didn't take it out. Took out the seats and center consoles and taped some stuff off. I did it that way because I did it one side at a time. Be sure vacuum really REALLY well, and buy lots of air freshener. It will smell of rattle can for a week or so (regardless of whether you take it out).

Top part of the passenger seat is reupholstered!

The back seat covers and top driver's side covers are made and awaiting installation. Still need to stitch up the bottom fronts and door panels.

I also painted the tail lights red (translucent ruby red paint). They look really good. Pics soon.:)

So, just an update, and some questions. Burgundrot's motor died a couple months ago. I'm not sure what happened. Just pulled in to a gas station, filled her up, and she wouldn't turn over. Took it to three mechanics, no one could tell me what was wrong. Since then, I've purchased a 2004 Audi TT as a replacement DD, and have decided to make this a true project car. So my plan is to do an engine swap at some point in the not so distant future, and in the meantime work on other things that need fixing.

So far my immediate plans are to strip the interior and take care of any rust on the floorboards or other areas of the inside of the car. Replace all the seals on the windows and boot lid, some of the electronic components on the inside that were having issues before, and perhaps start replacing bushings on the suspension. Any other suggestions of thing to look for or refurb/replace that I'm missing?

Also, if anyone has suggestions for a somewhat affordable engine swap please make them. I was thinking M50, but I'm not completely sold. And would it be worth it to get an M50 and rebuild it?

You could find an M50 for pretty cheap. It's fun but it's no S50/S52. If you're in the same boat I was in and wanted to get it back on the road and didn't have the funds I'd say it's worth it. I just wouldn't dump too much money into the M50 unless you're going to turbo it.

Yeah, the price is why I was considering the M50 over the S50. I could get it running sooner rather than later. I'm sure either will be quicker than the M20 that's in there now. But honestly I was going to go after stance with this car anyway. Save the speed for the track guys.

Any suggestions on where to find one? I keep reading about people getting them for $500ish, but I can't seem to find them that cheap anywhere.

Looks good! Do you go to Tech?

As far as engine swaps go, I would definitely do m30 over m50- just as cheap and faster.

Thanks, man! And yeah, I'm a grad student at Tech. Live in Midtown right now, but I'm looking for a house in Austell or Marietta. How do you like it up there?

I'll look into the M30. Is the swap any easier?

Ah ok, my sister goes there too, she's an architecture major. Marietta is great, I bought my house here about 2 years ago, it's kind of on the outskirts of town but that's what I was looking for.

Yeah my car has an m30, and the swap is really straightforward. You don't have to change the brake booster and the only non-bmw parts you need to buy are custom engine mounts.
