Best $5 mod ever! (USB ports)

Very nice. I did this when I swapped my dash. Added a two USB ports from dealextreme on my center consol just below the fan speed control.

I also installed a clamp style phone holder by the USB plugs. I use it to charge the phone while playing Slacker or Pandora.

Very useful when you keep a few USB iPod, micro and mini cables in the glovebox.

USB supplies 5V. Nothing more nothing less

These have a resitor to take the 12v to 5v

Novel idea. Even though I have a usb headunit already, I'd rather not use it for my phone when I'm using a thumbdrive for audio.

Just a question, when you plug an iPhone in, does it get hot? I have a car charger that says it's 12-14v and I think it ruined my first iPhone. The house charger says it's 5v. Wondering if it's just a bad car charger

Four wires?

I guess I bought the one for a pc. I'm gonna return them and just used the cig lighter charger. It's dual as well.

I went to Fry's a bought a 2 different kinds of USB port and one of them had 4 wires on them is why I asked for the wiring. But if I just used the cig. loghter thingy, there are only 2 wires, right?

I am doing this project today.

The easiest thing is to use a cig lighter one because it already has all the 12V conversion done.
