Progress report
Let's do it.
Lift
I recently replaced the drive shaft for the auto so I'll use the front half from the manual with back half from the auto. Hope it doesn't vibrate.
Lining up the parts for the install. A couple of R3V members really came through, wodcutr hooked me up with the single mass flywheel and clutch and E30darkknight had the clutch return spring I needed for the pedal box. I just started the swap last Saturday and I have the parts in hand. Thanks.
This is a beautiful sight, the messy auto is gone. At on point during the removal I had a 3 x 4 foot puddle of ATF on the ground.
The top bolt also proved problematic, the first application of torque resulted in the socket slipping off the bolt, I was frightened at that moment. I followed up with a thorough investigation involving flashlights and mirrors. I reapplied the socket and Franken-extension with a big hammer to make sure it was firmly seated on the bolt shoulder and was rewarded with a satisfying crack as it broke loose. Needless to say that bolt will not used for the install.
Got Pedals?
I did the pedals first because I thought that was going to be the hardest part. It was hard, remove drivers seat and plant your feet on the rear window, be patient. I practiced the move on a car at the pull yard before I did mine. Recommended, I did a lot of damage on the first one.
Notice the kick down button under the accelerator, that's got to go.
Tomorrow is more prep work, main seal replacement, cleaning, wiring and lining up some help for the install. Maybe 280z Bob is watching and will come over on Friday.
I still have the parts car and plenty of parts plus the 2.7 block if anyone is thinking about building a stroker.

Thanks, I haven't done anything except return to stock condition. The only non-stock parts on the car are the Eibach lowering springs and KYB shocks. I got lucky and the engine runs great with just normal maintenance.
Two weeks ago when I was buying the parts car I was cruising south on I-5 and moved to the left lane to pass some traffic, thumb and forefinger on the wheel. I glanced down at the speedo....90 MPH!
Oops, better back off a little, I love this car.

Thanks. The swap was pretty straightforward. There is plenty of information out there.
Having a parts car in the driveway was a big plus. The donor car had a 173,000 on the clock but the transmission felt tight and the fluid was clean so I am optimistic.
After I put it back on the ground I took a test drive around the block which ended up being about 50 miles. The car drove and shifted perfectly, the transmission is smooth and quiet. Now I have to learn how to drive it, I only killed it once and missed two shifts.

Update
It's been awhile since my last post, I've been busy driving it like I stole it. The cars a blast to drive since the 5 speed swap. I did notice a little movement in rear axle and have replaced the subframe and control arm bushings and followed up with motor mounts. Now the car is tight and chirping gears, breaks loose on command in first or second and is frankly, a better car than I am driver. The only areas for improvement are a rumbly idle and a slight hesitation on the throttle.
With that in mind I went through with the normal routine of vacuum leak elimination and yada, yada, yada let's check the injectors.
Shouldn't be too difficult, relieve fuel pressure, disconnect fuel lines, unbolt fuel rail and slide it out. Yeah, got three of the injectors and a bunch of dirt.
The intake runners had at least a 1/16 inch of crud, residue build up from crankcase.
Downstream of the injectors was clean.
How she sits, until tomorrow.
Time to attack, notice my weapon of choice, a toilet scrubber cut off on one side.
I was able to achieve full penetration using Simple Green, various de-greasers and finally a hot detergent bath. It's a dirty job, I should have called Mike Rowe.
I did an Ohm check on the injectors and replaced the o-rings, used some air to blow out the filters and am optimistic that it will run better than before.
I hope this cures the idle and response and maybe a little more power.
