......and boom goes the build. Saving an OG car. gK

    Just picked up #M42Technik's (Dan's) old Diamondschwarz 318is <http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/showthread.php?t=218251&highlight=91>
on Saturday, and after spending most of the first day at his place parts swapping, cursing, and a taking short ride to my buddy's shop with NOO brakes. The project had begun.

It got new rear brakes, a repaired braking system, along with some other quick fixes to get it drivable, and the old beast made it all the way back to North Jersey on Sunday. Gonna spend the next three weeks driving it and going over the necessary repairs and mods to prep it for the new heart.

October 9th is transplant day taking place up in the finger lakes region of NY. An m50 non-vanos swap that will add some much needed pep to the old girl.

Keep your eyes open for lots of photos and remarks to come.

Thanks again to Dan for the hospitality and the Orange cremesicle bar .... oh it was so refreshing in the heat. Had a good time getting it rolling with you!!

Good luck. I commend you for saving a car with quarter damage. I'm doing the same myself. Looks like you've got a fun road ahead of you. Lol btw, is that a cali car?

a quick pic of the acura (not from day of pick up). I have to upload those first, but they and he first few shop photos are coming soon.

no, the Sticker fooled me too. It's not a Cali car, but is surprisingly rust free anyhow. I believe it is from North Carolina he said.

had my first experience ever today attempting to weld aluminum... I got tired of catching and reusing the oil from the leaky pan lol.

Neeless to say it was hard.

                    1. I was stick welding Aluminum ...Poopy

                    2. I was welding that f'ing cast pan ....Shitty

                    3. I have never welded aluminum before and stick welding sucks .....cRAPPY!

---note i am going to buy aluminum wire for the mig ASAP, happened to have sticks in the shop and now want to throw them all away lol

anyhow, after a bunch of popcorn looking welds on the inside and out and then a nice coat of JB on the outside for good luck on top of my welds, it is no longer leaking. Pics to come later. Stupid job for a motor that is coming out, but i just got so pissed about carrying an oily paint tray everywhere with me to save myself 5 dollars in oil a day lol.

it's not mine, it's my buddy Josh's and apparently its a special diesel model?, so he is going to restore it to show quality with totally shaved body, no moldings / rain guards or trim. Everything has been stripped, grinded down, and welded, smoother so its a super smooth body. I think he wants to work it a little and build a torque monster out of it for towing an enclosed car trailer, but that has been a very very long term project as he always has six others so we'll see when it gets done.
