Call me a purist, elitist, whatever, but front wheel drive and sports car is an oxymoron! GTO, Corvette, S2000, 350Z, hell I'll even go so far as to say Fiero GT, those all have the characteristics of a sports car. A four door, front wheel drive, turbo four cylinder neon does not. I'm not saying it's not fast. I'm sure it's fast. So is my grandfathers Northstar equipped, FWD Cadillac.

I don't care if Dodge put a transversely mounted Viper motor in there, if it's front wheel drive, it's not a sports car.

          Flame on. :firehop:

Oh wait...... nobody said it was a sports car....... my bad.

not that i have any experience with newer mopar products. But on the note of FWD - ever driven a nicely balanced FWD car ? maybe an alfa, a crx or an early GTI... it's plenty of fun.

Hahahaha, quote to live by in my book --

The idea of racing a front-drive car is a bit like the idea of teaching an elephant to dance. It can be done, and people do it, but the basic anatomy of the critter involved is not particularly conducive to the activity.

No offense, just maybe constructive criticism but its always funny to me too when people leave their hand on the shifter. Like theyre WAITING to shift. You have thousands of RPM to go, and okay granted in this case you're going straight and just accelerating the whole time and have less chance of loosing it (also in the FWDness of it all)....however its not a bad habit to returning your hand to the wheel between at least most shifts as long as there will be a second or so gap. Racing sort of stamped that into my head as you need full control of the car at all times but it definately can help on the street too. Oh and slowing down whats the point of keeping your hand on the shifter? :D :P

                  In response to Redbulls post:

No. Maybe that's why I don't like the idea of using that term with a front wheel drive platform. For me, it's all about weight transfer, traction, and balance. You just don't get those from FWD. (read my first post again for edit)

By the way Armen, don't get me wrong here. I do like some of the styling on the car. Mainly the front fascia. reminds me of the first generation WRX which I was in love with when it came out.

I think they are awesome, C&D had awesome results with it in the 5-car comparo last month, the neon is great bang for the buck performance, with a shitload of factory performance stuff available. like Rob said, the warranty, fact that it's a new car, and American so kickass a/c...
E30 with 3.0 or 3.2 will still beat up a stock one though, but that's apples/oranges.

Yup, thats my main gripe about this whole deal. A car payment on a $20,000 just doesn't seem like the best way to go when you're 18 years old. Also I bet the insurance is just lovely.

Yeah. And when you see friends end up upside down on their deals.... (a new car drops in value fast so you may end up owing more to the bank than it's worth).....it really sucks. A $4K 10-15 year old car is still going to be near or around $4K for years later. So cost of owning can be lowww if maintence isn't an arm and leg.....and you don't go broke modding it.

But it is new. And it is fast..... and if......when it breaks, you have a warranty.
