Do one with diving boards. Much more durable-looking/cheaper to mess with

iirc 2dr and 4dr e30s are the same size. 4drs are not bigger.Comment

yea i knew that just stating that the length x width of 2dr and 4dr are the same. so to make a e30 pickup a 4dr would be more benefitial with the shorter doors.Comment

Well shit – if you’re fishing for input on an e30 truck – I’ll just kinda think out loud here..
I like the idea of an ix platform – but going down that route adds expense to the drivetrain maintenance/refreshing. On the other hand – I think you’d be limited to an m20 engine – so that would even out the expense of s50/v8 swap. All said – an ix truck would have some cool factor.
re: working tailgate – A lot of times, I’ll think in terms of “is it worth it” – and when it comes to a working tailgate on an e30 truck – I just don’t see it. Unless the mission was to load/carry a motorcycle – I wouldn’t bother to go through the cost and expense of sacrificing rear structural rigidity – because that’s exactly what you’ll be doing.
For some reason, putting a chebby motor in an e30 truck seems weird to me – and an s50 seems like refined overkill – for something that is already going to be light in the rear – and fighting for traction regardless. For this, an m50 feels more appropriate – and a turbo m50 if you really wanted to go crazy.. but if this is a vehicle you plan to sell later on – then the complexity of a turbo system wouldn’t be something I’d want to be liable for in a vehicle I’d plan to sell.
All that said – for a showy vehicle you might want to sell, my ‘dream’ vote is for a healthy m50 powerplant in an early model with eurobumpers and an MT1 body trim w/ a fixed tailgate. To me – that approaches something “that the factory should have done” – and therefore – something that would sell.Comment

A coupe door would give better proportions (not overall size like you assumed). The longer doors give it the ute feel
