at least I think so.
Here's the story: Was driving from Portland to Ellensburg to see some friends for the weekend. It was pouring heavily the entire trip. I took highway 97 up through the Washington cascades and drove through pouring rain, mixing rain/snow, and snow. While coming down a long easy bend, it got really foggy all of the sudden at it was very hard to see so I slowed down considerably. All of the sudden I saw several cars on the shoulder with hazards, and then right out of the fog in front of me appeared a small boulder which had to be at least the size of a basketball, probably a bit bigger. Anyway, hit her dead on and fucked things up pretty good. There was a huge rockslide and the entire highway was covered in huge rocks. Luckily I did not hit any of the huge ones that would have resulted in a damaging of a complete front end.
I got the car towed back to work in Portland.

Here's up on my lift at work, some pretty bad damage.

Car is likely to be totalled by the adjuster, I'm sure of it. The oil pump got a piece smashed off and took part of the block with it. Front subframe and steering rack are bent, possible frame damage as well. Right rear passenger floor is punched up from the rock.
Unsure about re-building at this point, I need time to think about it.
As far as I'm concerned this accident was unavoidable, and I was going all of 35-40mph when it happened, the boulder just came right out of the thick fog. Tried my best to react but by the time I realized what was happening it was too late. I'm not a dumbass, just some bad luck.
