Right? I was like holy SHIT where's the pan? Where's the pump? WTF?

If the frame is straight, this is a perfect opportunity to upgrade :) Go s50 and call it a day - especially if insurance gives you enough money to do it.

You know what to do . . .;)

Seriously, though - I never bottomed out (much) on that setup. The real problems were speed bumps, rounded curbs and the unusual dip in the road. But our roads around here aren't all that bad. Take a look at the oil pan on that thing and it tells the story.

            Jeff-

I have driven by your car numerous times. You live in Sellwood correct??? Very nice car. I moved into a house just up the road from you. It is a shame what happend and was curious why I have not seen your car the past few days. If you do part it out let me know as I would take the lights from you.

            Good day.

Andy- yep, in Sellwood right on Tacoma st there.

adjuster came to dealership today. sending him an estimate, it's likely to be totalled. i have a new front subrame and likely a new steering rack to put in from an e30 with a blown motor we had here at work. our body shop guy came and checked it out, said he did not see frame damage, simply the subframe and rack which i knew about.

at this point in time, i think i'll take the money and fix it. i have a lot of resources at work to do this, it's very tempting to re-do the car's set-up.

                    I love california.

"Having won more road races than any other model in history, the E30 M3 is considered by many to be the world's most successful road race car." - Simply put, E30s kick ass.

I90 has been horrible for like the last few weeks w/ rock slides, I'd hate to be on it, best of luck, really unfortunate and really bad luck.

                          update-

after talking with another tech at work about my motor, i ended up trying to see if it was still okay for shits and giggles. i thought why not, if its damaged then i need a new one anyways, if it's okay, then i might be able to fix it.

while pulling a front subframe which needs to be replaced anyways, i pulled a oil pan and an oil pump from my parts car source. pulled out everything on saturday, no damage was found on the inside of the motor top or bottom, in addition to the small chip of the block that is gone (where the oil pump bolts up on the two bolt side). i can still bolt up the oil pump with two bolts and she's nice and secure. subframe bolted right up, tie rods are no longer at strange angles now that a straight frame is in there. filled her with oil and she fired right up and runs like a champ, so i ended up saving my motor by shutting it off quickly after hitting the rock.

if car keeps running okay for a while, engine swap idea may be ditched for now. i've got other things to be doing besides car stuff, but i'll definitely be getting some upgrades soon: wheels/tires, suspension, ect.

Great news. I am very glad for you and sorry this happened. I maintain BMW really messed up when they allowed the unprotected oilpan to be way too low. wtf were they thinking?

Glad to hear everything is working out so easily, but an S50 would still be neato ;)

making a lot of debt dissappear in the snap of a finger is even more neato. i want an s50 pretty bad but i've got other things that are more important to take care of. since i have a motor that runs, it's a bit hard to justify the swap now.
