Good way to start off this project, I knew ordering anything from ECS was a mistake. Their prices are just so attractive.


Did a little screwing around today. I had bought an AFM from a user on here and ever since it was put in the car I had a terrible idle and rpm dip off idle. So I hooked up a scan tool and watched the O2 sensor voltage.

Sure enough the car is scewed rich.


Did a little fondling of the AFM, made sure it had no dead spots.

Then played with the spring setting to get more air during idle and came up with this. It's slightly better, a little more scewed towards 450 millivolts.


And now there's no bog off idle, at operating temperature at least.

There's only so much you can do with these AFM's and this car has always ran rich. Someday I'll pay the car the respect and rebuild the motor with a snail attached to it.

To end the day I finished splitting the wheels so I can go get a quote on sandblasting and powder coating this week.


If there's time tomorrow I'll get started on sanding as many square feet of the car as I can in the day. Progress, progress, progress.

Can you paint my Zender front end?

If I get to keep it.

My very talented friend has agreed to helping me with repainting the car (for a fee, of course). Without messing around today we tackled the biggest job, fixing the rear quarter. I sent the car into a ditch a while back and never fixed it and has ever since been a monkey I've needed to get off my back. The pictures dont do a justice for how gnarled up I got it. Here's what we are up against:



We hooked a couple of come-alongs to the frame of the S10 beside my car and pulled on the fender while hammering out the crease.



Getting somewhere



The whole fender has been bent in due to my mess up, as a result there was a crack in the paint. I chipped at it only to reveal the quarter panel being repaired once before.


Apparently gingers are a thing around this house.


Since this isn't going to be a down to metal full repaint we are going to repair where the bondo split. I know that the car could use the love, but it is just out of my budget at this point, I'll make it up to her someday.



That's all for today, more is to be done on the portion above the exhaust but we need to get some wire to weld up the small holes from what seems like a spot weld puller. More work should be done this weekend, and maybe a start on the wheels as well!

That's my plan. My driver's quarter needs straightened so there's that issue before getting the whole car resprayed. The paint is in alright condition and would most likely respond well to a respray.

Wow man, its like the E30s need to get tucked away in winter because of all the idiots out there. If I was in your shoes (and I just had a similar problem) this is what I would do:

-diesel guy buys new bumper, fender, and euro trim (OEM trim will probably get a similar cost)
-price out the cost to paint the bumper and fender and apply that to the other parts you want (iS skirts). This way he isnt paying for a few parts to get painted, then you pay for paint again
-Get a good repaint on the whole car with all the new parts and enjoy it the car again.

Well the worst happened. I parked next to my roommates lifted diesel the night before and came out to a phone call and disappointment the next day





Luckily there seems to be no impact damage as you can see the radiator support is straight and as the top of the fender kept its line. Seems that his 37" tire just put a big dent in the fender/Valence and tore the bumper in half.


He's down to pay for it all but I'm not sure what route I want to go. I'm thinking of having him pay for the parts and paint for the damage he did, then I get the rear quarter panel pulled out and straightened to get the whole car painted. Also thinking of doing euro trim all around and saving for Abraham motorsports IS side skirts. This will be a slow moving project but it will get there.
