E30's aren't rare, they imported literally millions of them. I'd definately say NICE E30's are rare, but overall, nah.
Disagreed on that count, E30s are pretty rare to see day to day around here (even broken down ones), I see many more E36 M3s. And yeah, same opinions stated before are simply being relisted for the hundreth time in this thread as mentioned.
I can dig both but E36s are too big for me cuz I'm tiny.
Id go with the 99. It would be tough but I would swap my car for a 99. Yeah my dads car is slower but its a lot more comfortable, cleaner, and newer.
The E36 is still a well setup car with a far superior rear suspension. Just sandwich some steel in there to reinforce the rear subrame mounts and you will be good to go. My biggest complaint with that car is so much is held in my clips that break all the time.
I have driven a stock 99 m3 and yes its fast but i really dotn enjoy driving it, at all. A clutch stop and short shifter would probably make it way diff on the e36 part but still ehh. The biggest reason i like the e30 is the fact that i could have counted at least 3 e36 m3s today and zero clean e30's. the e36 m3 doesnt seem like an enthusiest car just a car that i see tons of. A nice looking e30 looks better than a nice looking e36.
You have an E39 M5 and an unbelievably sick E30 M3, is the price difference between an E36 M3 and a non-M E30 that big of a deal to you Cramer?
lol, well you know me, e-ballers gotta save money somewhere ;)
Seriously though, I just looked at it from the perspective of having one car to drive. The E30 is just more comfortable for me. The extra money saved could go into improving the E30 (suspension, etc) and still cost less. Don't get me wrong, I'm not confused about the M3's ability. I've driven my dad's 98 Dinan prepped M3 many times. It's a fun, fast car... just not something I could drive everyday, my damn head rubs on the roof. Now if we are talking modding the car with race seats set on the floor, or a non sunroof model, I may be able to fit in the car better But stock for stock, the E30 get my vote for all around daily car, sure it won't out perform an E36 on the track.. but that's not what I'm after in this example.
