You won't be able to get the hood painted by a reputable shop for $260. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news...

I actually love it when this type of thing happens. The last three or four times I've had mild accidents they havn't been my fault and I got to source new parts (upgraded parts) for both my 540it and e30. Came out on top with new parts and new paint.

No one makes this car anymore. The government won't allow them, normal people won't buy them. So it's up to us: the freaks, the weirdos, the informed. To buy them, to appreciate them, and most importantly, to drive them.

no way Id let them off that easy. If you have ever rented a car you know why I say this. They read u the riot act about insurance and then go on to say they will sue u for lost work if u wreck it cause your insurance won't cover that. You go away feeling like its not safe to leave the lot cause if you do you will not only have to pay the deductible you have to pay all the other bs they can think of.

I know they just want to sell yet even more coverage but what a load of crap.

I'm pissed that some hit my E30 regardless of whether the color of the hood was correct, you of all people should understand.

I actually found a black hood for $40 so there's no need to paint it.

^what the hell are you talking about. The person who hit me is a coworker who also works for Enterprise Rent-a-Car. We have worked together for several years so I trust him, and if we did go through insurance our company (Enterprise itself) would have paid for it because he hit me with a rental.

So even though its only $200 worth of damage I should file a claim? Because my E30 in BMW world is worth probably about $4k but the Kelly Blue book is only $2k, and an adjuster is gonna say this is at least a $1,500 job. So they will deem this car totaled, so why would I do that?

just because the insurance says its a total doesn't mean they get the car. Its just means they don't want to use the money to repair it. This doesn't mean you can't keep the car and use funds to do whatever with -buyback amount.
