When I had my old sport seats retrimmed, I had the frames completely rebuilt and re-welded, they were awesome. The added new welds to every joint, even where the weren't broken yet.

It's too bad they got fucked up in shipping when I sold them.

As far as that applies to the context of this thread I whole heartedly agree. Rob has done some really nice work, I've also seen alot of really horrible work that he's done. These seats are somewhere in the middle. Nothing about them looks "right"

Sorry Rob, I still love ya.. but not your best work.

TJ.. seriously man, get something else.

          Right...

They were fine when I shipped them. The boxes were smashed in shipping, and the seats were pretty much folded in half.

Why did Rob not reupholster the bolsters? It seems really half assed just taking a set of vinyl sprt seats and reupholstering the center sections. The centers are the easiest part...
I would understand if they were done at home by some kid, but these don't look very professional with the stock vinyl bolsters and headrests. Did you know that is how they would be when you made the deal with him?

When you have them apart, do yourself of service and definitely do it ALL at once (as Eurospeed stated, sorry do not know everyone's name), if you don't re-weld the weak sections now, you WILL end up doing them soon if they are weak like you stated. It's not fun doing the same work back-to-back, specially when you have to stretch new upholstery. I love stock sport seats, the best thing about them I think is that you simply cannot go wrong with them.

I don't know most of you who are throwing the insults around. Those who have contact with custom upholstery shops (whether its your daddy or not) - lets see what kind of job they would do for a good R3V member and friend offering a couple used seats as payment - they would laugh in your pimply little face.

And besides, where are these titans of industry? Which of those upholsterers have stuck with and worked with the E30 gang, and R3V in particular, like I have? I challenge you to find ONE R3Ver that felt he/she was unfairly dealt with - I make sure you are all happy - return it, fix it, extras, discounts whatever.

Back to the topic, all that you kids offered up to TJ for his seats where beaters. He asked what we could do for a trade, and this is what we came up with (aside from the pass. seat back, I'll give em that). No, its not a $1,000 seat job, but the material is authentic, will last forever and will hold TJ in place. The bolsters will continue to wear like iron.

BTW TJ, did you notice your boots are brown ;)

The reason professional upholsterers have stuck with and worked with the e30 gang is because alot of e30 owners, including me, are cheap!! They gota stick where the money is at. doing 10,000 dollar plus custom hot rod interiors, regulare jobs for individuals, and doing work regularly from local dealers. People have come very far because of my dads work.
I didnt understand the deal that TJ had with you and that he wasnt spending alot of money, Judging by the rest of his car being top top quality, and it is, i figured he was spending money on those seats also.
Heres some pics of my daddys work to show you what a pros work looks like:

My brothers el camino with seats from a feiro with custom mounts and a custom center consol. The seat covers were made from scratch. Never ending project that car is.

Interiors obviously not finished. Now has electric windows and locks also.

Its cool. Generally the whole BMW crowd doesn't like to lay down a lot of $. But maybe that will change as they continue to age and restorations become worth it.

When it comes down to it, Rob hooked me up hardcore in this trade. He had the driver's seat welded before I got it and its solid, and I will fix the pass. seat this summer when I have the time. He shipped the seat backs and the new boots out to me, and I ordered the hub for my Momo wheel so I will post better pics of the seats this weekend.

If TJ is happy with his deal, what should it matter what anyone else thinks?

Keep slamming on Rob and maybe he won;t want to sell us his slick boots etc. for as cheap as he does.
